Leo put the yogurt in the fridge, tossed strawberries in a bowl, and stashed the herbal tea in the cabinet where his mom kept her stuff.
Lila was already knee-deep in homework on the couch, her highlighter jammed behind her ear, eyes scanning her notes like she was wondering if math had always been this miserable.
"Is it math?" Leo asked.
"Statistics."
"Ugh."
"Way worse." She snapped open the highlighter, still not looking up. "Alex texted while you were out. Your phone was on the table. I didn't read it."
Leo shot her a look.
"I didn't," she repeated, a little too forcefully.
He grabbed his phone.
Alex: landed. hotel is aggressively modern. seventeen throw pillows on the bed.
Alex: why does anyone need seventeen throw pillows
Alex: i miss you already and i've been gone six hours
Leo stared at those messages, reading them three times.
Then he texted back.
Leo: throw them all on the floor
Leo: glad you landed. eat something before the gala
