Chapter 8 - “The Hidden File”

🌙 Part 8:

The Girl Who Remembered

The festival ended, but the unease didn't.

The next morning, Northbridge University looked the same — bright, ordinary, alive.

But Elara felt like she was walking through a different campus.

Every hallway seemed louder.

Every whisper felt sharper.

And then she saw her.

Standing near the notice board.

A girl with pale calmness and steady eyes.

Not fragile.

Not broken.

Just observant.

"That's her," Naira's voice echoed in Elara's mind.

The person who got hurt… they're here.

Zayn stopped walking.

For the first time since she had known him, he looked unsure.

The girl turned.

Her eyes met Zayn's.

No anger.

No drama.

Just recognition.

"Elena," Zayn said quietly.

So this was her name.

Elena walked toward them slowly. The air between the three of them felt tight — controlled but heavy.

"I didn't expect to see you here," Elena said calmly.

"You knew I transferred," Zayn replied.

"Yes." She glanced briefly at Elara. "I didn't know why."

Elara felt like she was standing inside a story she didn't fully understand.

"Should I leave?" she asked quietly.

"No," Elena answered before Zayn could speak.

Her voice wasn't hostile.

"If you're part of his life now, you should hear this."

Zayn's shoulders stiffened.

"Elena," he warned gently.

She ignored it.

"Last year," she began, "there was a crowd. A fight broke out during the event. Someone pushed me. I fell from the stage."

Elara's breath caught.

"I was unconscious for two days," Elena continued. "And everyone said Zayn started the fight."

"I didn't," he said firmly.

"I know," Elena replied.

That word changed everything.

Elara looked between them.

"You know?" she asked.

Elena nodded slowly.

"He didn't start it. He stepped in to stop it."

Silence.

"But when the administration began asking questions," Elena continued, "someone powerful didn't want their name involved."

The meaning hung in the air.

"So they let you take the blame," Elara whispered.

Zayn didn't deny it.

Elena's eyes softened slightly.

"You never defended yourself."

"I promised," Zayn replied quietly.

Elara frowned. "Promised who?"

Elena hesitated.

"That's the part that's still dangerous," she said carefully.

Before anyone could say more, a phone buzzed.

Zayn looked at his screen.

Unknown number.

Again.

He didn't answer.

But a message appeared.

"You should have stayed away."

His jaw tightened.

Elara saw it. "Who is that?"

"I don't know," he said — but this time, there was uncertainty in his voice.

Another message appeared.

"If she finds out everything, you both lose."

The air felt colder.

Elena stepped back slightly. "They're watching."

"Who?" Elara demanded.

But no one answered.

Because none of them truly knew.

Under the bright daylight of Northbridge University,

the past wasn't just returning—

It was moving.

Watching.

Threatening.

And for the first time,

this wasn't just about reputation or rumors.

It was about control.

And someone didn't want the truth revealed.
