Chapter 36 - Chapter 36: Such Speed?

Series: Overlord: I Refuse to Become the Holy Queen's Greatsword

The Royal Guard training grounds welcomed a new group of guests. It was Friday, and the entire morning was dedicated to practical magic combat training.

Unlike the indoor lectures, the priests were now teaching a simple offensive spell: [Luminous Missile]. This magic allowed a caster to summon and hurl a glowing orb that dealt decent damage and could temporarily blind an opponent. The training grounds were filled with the excited shouts of teenage boys and girls; even Damian, who had always been at the bottom of the class, was making rapid progress. Before long, Damian successfully launched a brilliant golden light orb, drawing admiring glances from the crowd and causing him to swell with pride.

However, a much larger commotion soon stole everyone's attention.

The six-year-old Calca stood there, dressed in crisp white clothes and trousers, her expression calm and focused. With a flick of her right hand, a blue magic circle expanded instantly, and golden arcs of light condensed in less than a second.

Boom!

Another [Luminous Missile], even more powerful than the last, exploded in the air. Standing to the side, Sanita and Coreian felt a pang of jealousy. After only a few days of study, she had caught up to years of effort from others. Could a "God-Blessed" truly be this unreasonable?

Calca didn't notice the resentful gazes of her companions at all; she was completely immersed in her own sense of crisis. The First Holy King had been incredibly strong, yet he still perished at the hands of a Demon God in the Abelion Hills. And that same Demon God had been easily dispatched by Evileye of the "Thirteen Heroes." This comparison of power levels—reminiscent of high-stakes anime—gave her a deep sense of urgency. In the face of the future Great Tomb of Nazarick, her current achievements weren't even worth as much as a speck of dust.

To improve her combat effectiveness, Calca began experimenting with a new direction: casting speed.

Relying on her "Mana Affinity" for precise control over her magical energy, the light orbs she hurled became increasingly dense. At first, everyone thought she was reaching her limit, but in the next second, the light missiles began firing in rapid succession like a semi-automatic rifle. The entire training ground was suddenly engulfed in a blinding white glare, leaving everyone dizzy and seeing stars. Even the priest-instructor was nearly blinded by the display.

Because Calca's performance was deemed too "hazardous," she was promptly escorted out of the collective training area.

After class ended, Calca returned to her living quarters. Before she even reached the door, she spotted a girl with short, tea-colored hair. Clad in a chainmail shirt, the girl stood guard at the bedroom door with a look of unwavering determination in her eyes.

"You are... Remedios?" Calca asked tentatively.

"Yes, Princess Calca!" the girl replied, her voice sharp and her posture as straight as a sword.

Calca was stunned. Her father's efficiency in handling this request was terrifyingly fast.
