"No, Don said I can drive. There's no need for you guys to follow us." Eliza ordered, her voice firm as she stopped the two bulky bodyguards who were already moving toward the car.
My heart was literally pounding in my chest. The heavy front doors of the mansion loomed behind us.
Every step away from that prison made my skin tingle with a dangerous mix of hope and terror. If Jericho found out what we were really planning…
Eliza glanced once over her shoulder, making sure the men stayed back, then led me quickly down the wide stone driveway. The gravel crunched under our shoes, and the cool breeze carried the faint scent of freshly cut grass and distant sea air.
Her posture was straight and confident, but I noticed the way her fingers gripped the car keys a little too tightly.
"Do you have anything on you?" she asked, her voice low and cautious the moment we were out of earshot.
