Chapter 291: Behind the Door
The huge sound from the entryway tore both of them out of the dream at the same time.
Elias reacted the worst.
The flush on his face drained away in an instant, leaving him pale. His whole body went stiff beneath Giselle Frost, frozen so completely that he did not even dare move. One moment ago, his breathing had been unsteady for a very different reason. Now even that breath seemed trapped in his chest.
Giselle turned her head toward the sound.
The haze in her eyes vanished.
Whatever impulse had dragged her this far withdrew in a single breath, and reason returned cleanly, almost brutally. Her gaze cooled until it looked as if a hard layer of ice had formed over it.
A voice came through the door, carrying a faint smile.
"Are you opening it yourselves, or should I?"
Giselle's pupils contracted.
Her breathing sharpened.
The instant she heard that voice, she knew who stood outside.
Victoria Frost.
The brief panic passed quickly.
