"For what?" Ann asked. She pulled away from Jade's embrace and looked her in the eyes. "You have suffered all your life, Jade, and it is because of this, your mom, your dad, and then you too. I wish the story was different for you. You didn't deserve to be born into any of that, and nobody does. Instead of telling you the truth all this while, I kept it to myself."
"But you told me now," Jade cut her off, sniffling. "And at least I know the truth. That is what I wanted all this while. That I didn't escape the mansion even though I wanted to. I saw the man who killed my dad, and I came back because I wanted to know the truth, and I know it now. At least most of it. And I swear you did nothing wrong. Do not feel any guilt for this because you were just somehow caught in it, like I was."
Ann ran her fingers through Jade's hair. A sigh escaped her lips as she thought about what to say next, hoping to change the subject before they both became too emotional and no one left.
