Chapter 34 - Dragon God.

"As Sky watched the Land and the Sea fight with all their might, a desire that should not exist in a god began to be born, a fire unlike any other Sky had ever unleashed on the World, a passion for battle. As Land emerged victorious, Sea receded to the depths of his domain, and Land went to the Plains of Helio to rest, behind the Helio mountain range.

Beastmen began to worship the Beast God, along with some humans, although a majority worshipped the Sky God; Sea Folk worshipped the Sea God. However, soon, the followers of the three gods were at odds with one another. Sea Folk hated followers of the Beast God already, and the followers of the Sky followed suit, due to disagreements over the land.

The followers of the Sky waged war against the followers of the Land, and these wars were long and arduous. During this time, Sky challenged Sea God, and he was defeated once more. When Land had awakened from his slumber, Sky challenged "Him" as well, and the most frightening battle of Alapurian history occurred.

The Land and the Sky fought for eighteen days, and the continent was in shambles. Mountains rose to combat the storm, Deafening booms arose to combat the flames of Dragon God, Claws and fangs bit into godly flesh, wings were torn, bones were broken, and the continent was shattered.

But after eighteen days of calamity, the Sky had emerged victorious, and the Land had gone to slumber once more, to recuperate from its wounds. Sky had claimed his throne as the highest among the trinity. However, the war didn't stop, even as the continent lay fractured. For a hundred years and so, the followers of the Beast and the Dragon fought one another, but none could claim victory over the other. The continent, even after enduring the calamitous battle of the Gods, had to endure a century of bloodshed. The blood of its sons and daughters seeped deep into the continent, and this awakened the slumbering Beast God.

He arose once more, and with his might, he stopped the Hundred Year War. Sky helped as well, ending the bloodshed that had stained the continent for so long. The continent enjoyed a period of peace lasting thirty years... until Sky had gotten bored.

Beast was asleep, and Sea did not wish to rise from the depths, so, with no more gods to fight, Sky widened his horizons... and set his gaze upon a land further away..."

Ethan, who had been silently listening to the story, gritted his teeth. His fist tightened, and his breathing grew heavy. At first, he had thought he was getting a religious lesson; he had even mused that Igimo would start to sing praises of the Beast God and get him to be a believer, but the old man had delved into history as well, the common history of this continent.

However, the end of this story was something he knew about, something every Vakuman knew about; it was drilled into their heads the very day they were born, a history they would never forget.

Igimo noticed the changes in Ethan, but he continued with a heavy voice, guilt and remorse laced his voice, and he didn't try to hide it.

"Sky set his gaze on a land further away, one that had not been given birth by Beast God, a land of swords known as Vakuma. Dragon God's thirst for battle had led him to the other side of the world, and..."

"A thousand years of bloodshed followed."

Ethan completed his sentence and gazed at the darkness beyond the fence. Somewhere in between, he had placed his hand on his sword, gripping the handle tightly. He knew the end of this story.

'So they call you the Sky, and Dragon God here, huh...'

The deity had many titles in the Alapurian continent, but was known in Vakuma by only one, one that every Vakuman knew by heart, not from reverence, but from pure hate.

The Demonic Monster of Crimson.

No other titles existed for this man, for no other words could describe the atrocities he had caused. A thousand years of bloodshed, slavery, and fire. The man who was the nightmare of every Vakuman child, of every Vakuman elder, and the object of hatred of every Vakuman youth. No other word existed other than demon or monster to describe the man who had almost razed Vakuma to nothing. The demon of Vakuma was the Mightiest God of Alapur.

Ethan continued to look in the darkness beyond the fence, his grip tight. Igimo couldn't bear to raise his head, as he remained silent, giving Ethan a moment to calm his heart.

Ethan didn't dwell on it for too long; his hate wouldn't do him any good here. He signalled for Igimo to continue, and the priest heaved a sigh of relief, before teaching the boy the common manners, and what and what not to do when meeting other Alapurian, basically anything that would garner suspicion or have people giving him the weird look.
