By when Moonlight arrived, Elan asked him an apparent favor. Naturally, Moonlight paid no heed and walked directly to class.
The school chairs aligned, empty and fresh, still ripe as no one else sat on them. Due entered through the windows, wetting the chairs beside them. Moonlight sat at the middle row, near the window, still as expressionless as ever. Away from him, was Victor in the same pink overall as yesterday, with a difference being his un-kept hair.
He wandered in, seeing only Moonlight seated while the rest were still outside, chatting among themselves, waiting for the opening bell to ring. 'Here I thought no one was inside.' Victor said in his thoughts.
He held a piece of chalk and wrote a name 'Elro', a name that Moonlight once thirsted for. A name that led to Moonlight's meeting with the creature which sat alongside him. Moonlight fixed his eyes on the board for a second then, turning away as that subject was already at the back of his mind. No more his problem.
Victor exited the classroom.
~DING DING~
Then, the opening bell rang.
Around the school, there came a sudden rush of students, moving to their various classes like a beggar looking for food. Among them, some still moved nonchalantly until an order from a teacher increased their pace. Elan entered the classroom, followed by a boy the same height as him. From the way Elan smiled, they were close friends.
The boy sat at the middle of the middle, comfortably, like there was meant for him. Curious, Elan chuckled. "What made you stay at the middle?" The boy leaned on the seat even more, showing he truly loved there. "Middle is perfection. Too far from the back, too far from the front, yet your eyes still see all."
"Well that's your problem." Elan said, therefore putting an end to their measly class talk.
"Hey there,"
Elan waved. He sat beside Moonlight.
The next to enter were a group of children, all having different heights and appearances, yet neither were below or above ten. They stood at the door, blocking the path, under the pretext they were talking among each other. Those who entered next either just pushed them away or had to stretch in order to avoid trouble. "See, something funny is going to happen."
Elan whispered to Moonlight.
"Are we finally learning it?"
"I think so."
"Ha… finally it took for—
"Just because you waited, doesn't mean I have to wait for four whole seconds! Get out of my way!"
The voiced screamed like thunder, freezing the entire group, forcing their instincts to tell them to run. So they did, like a nigerian thief escaping the community. "HAAHAHAH," Then, Elan broke into laughter.
"What's so funny, Class Pre?" asked a student sitting at Moonlight's back.
Elan replied, "Nothing. Just that it feels so long since I had a scene like this." He wiped his tear off and scratched his spiky grey hair, with a smile that would make anyone ask if he is still a kid.
He's ten…
Next, Victor marched in, unchanged. He quickly adjusted his hair and straightened his clothes, "I welcome you all to school today and also, I congratulate you for still being in this class. Clap for yourself."
As he ordered, the whole class gave thundering claps, with some random at the back shouting "Oh yea!" and some not even raising their hands at all, e.g. Moonlight. Then, they all went silent. Victor's hand was raised.
"It is a joyous thing but," His voice derailed. The class lay patiently. They knew each time he changes tone, something big is about to happen. "Due to the majority of the class being here, the school has made a rather smart and efficient decision."
They knew it. Something big was going to happen.
"Hum? Decision? I'm getting chills from just hearing that." Elan added, the class followed behind him, chanting words like 'me too.'
However, Victor turned to Elan. "You are the head of this class. This matters to you than it does to them. But, don't worry the decision is in the middle of easy and difficult." Victor reassured.
The class still didn't stop. They voiced their concerns.
Until,
"The decision was that if you get below a 90 in the upcoming test, you will be forced to change classes. The classes you change to will be your next highest scoring." Victor explained.
"Huh?"
"How are we going to get a 90 in all subjects?"
"Yea this school hates us."
Seeing the growing argument, Elan stepped in. "Calm down. Let our dear Teacher Victor explain what he meant by that?"
'I could've stopped them but,' thought Victor. He slowly moved closer to the class, sat on the desk on the middle of the first row then, chuckled. "Put it simply, I meant if you get below a 90 in my subject, you must change classes."
"Oh…" The class said, finally realizing what he meant. Still, their internal murmurs and silent questions still lived on.
Victor walked to the black board and pointed, "I will be gravely disappointed if I don't see all of you by next month." He said, sending shivers through the entire class. "Now let's begin the day."
Just as Victor signaled the start of the day, Elan noticed Moonlight was rather disinterested in the topic they all yearned for. He whispered, telling Moonlight that a guidebook was under each desk. "Use it if you're bored."
Then, Elan switched focus to the class.
"As you may know, Elro…" Victor began.
The topic was already well known to Moonlight, learning something the second time wasn't any beneficial at all. He listened to Elan and checked under the desk, he picked a piece of paper that had 'Beginner Academy' as its font.
According to the paper, the academy boasts education in all sectors, having each piece of knowledge in the palm of their hands. This knowledge is divided into five levels, if a child performs well he may upgrade to the upper levels.
Respective to the levels, there are also five classes, with class of 5 being the lowest and class of 10, being the highest. Those of class of 10, has the right to get into secondary education, a higher form of education.
"…and that's all for today." Victor said, marking the end of the class.
The class's heart were renewed as some either understood nothing or had their head under the desk. Elan was still a victim of this, he leaned on the seat, "Ha, who knew just the history would be this long."
"Hey, Daniel, do you think this thing was hard?"
Daniel was the boy he came in with.
Elan turned his head, his eyes opened wide.
"Daniel?"
