Chapter 43 - After School

A sense of uneasiness washed through Moonlight as he heard Elan's voice call from behind him. Moonlight only glared before facing and moving forward again. Furthermore, Elan did not speak again and Moonlight, well he wasn't going to even open his mouth.

It was exactly four in the evening; Moonlight had rested for three whole hours and was now trekking back home. The route from the school to their house had already been memorized inside Moonlight's head. He already knew nobody was picking him up so he found something that interested him; something that will be revealed later on.

The once buzzing streets held its calm, the stalls which once opened were soon closing, the sneaking eyes atop the buildings prepared to change positions and Moonlight whom went to school by carriage this morning is going back by foot during the evening. Unlike before, he would never have walked through an overflowing street, but now, he was too bored to care.

Thirty minutes later, Moonlight was already nearing the house gates. He could've reached earlier but, something took his time. The gate stood at ten meters about the same height of those orchids Moonlight encountered some time ago. Its base was thick; so thick that an ant wouldn't hear if there was a knock.

The gates mechanism made it that if something got a meter close, it will open immediately if recognized by the house. However, Moonlight had other plans.

He knocked.

Twice, he did.

The gate squeaked silently, and opened slowly.

Beyond the gate, Phoenix stood there with a look of worry, relief and happiness. "Moonlight, welcome home," She said before giving him a warm hug and then, guided him back to the house.

There, she sat him on a couch in the parlor and asked him questions about how his school day went. The entire house came together to communicate, thus, marking their first day at the land where all things are equal, Vista.

Vista is a land known by all as where all things are equal, due to 90% of the population being overrun by commoners, merchants, and those of middle class. It locates at the south-east region of the Eastern continent. Cartographers say the map is like an ostrich standing, which only makes the place more unique.

By exactly five in the evening, all stalls had closed down, movement stopped and the once playing children must all have been forced back into the house. Furthermore, some hidden movement took place right at the school compound.

In a place under the evening sky, rounded flames flared beneath a pot that measured ten centimeters, it sizzled, blocking the ears of all who came close. Inside that pot, was some sort of soup which was currently being spiced by a child of age ten, named Daniel, "You know their getting their revenge this year, right?"

Daniel picked a big spoon and began stirring. He sealed his mouth shut and stirred unconditionally. With each stir, one could visibly see the spice mixing into the meal, completely changing the taste and look. Daniel stopped after a whole solid minute. "I do not care for that's not my concern." He took a sip of the soup and was elated. "That Adna however is my concern."

"Four months is enough for a growth, you know that more than anyone else, right?"

From behind, another voice said to Daniel.

Daniel hissed. Then, he picked up a plate. Using the spoon, he filled the plate. "Take, it's still hot." From behind, the other child received it and blew directly on the plate. Daniel walked over and filled another plate. "I think that's all. Should I give this remaining to her?

"Huh? Are you out your mind?! IF the school catches us, what do you think will happen?!" The other voice yelled, while still controlling his volume.

~slurp slurp~

Daniel drank the soup in one full go. "Relax, the worst thing that will happen is either we get suspended or we are forced to transfer to the Food and Nutrition class as punishment."

The other voice digested his food and gasped when he was done. The guy's mind flashed to a certain memory. 'Food and nutri…'

"Teacher Nina may be beautiful and well formed, but I'm not sure I can survive a term in that class." His body shuddered while saying that.

"Yeah, right?" cut in Daniel.

From then on, both of them exchanged words, using constant re-fillings to buy time. Before they knew it, evening had already surfaced. Both their expression changed and immediately, they grew cautious of the land they stood.

"You know, I think is about time we leave."

"Yeah, it's too dangerous. But we what will we do about this thing right here." Daniel pointed to the fireplace. Suddenly, both of them covered their faces in anger and disappointment.

"Well, we can just leave it here, nothing will happen."

"I guess so."

So, both of them ran off, leaving the plates, spoons, fireplace and pot. Little did they know, this one thing would lead to something great. "Who is there?!"
