Chapter 133 - Chapter 128: Teaching Apprentices

Inside Cuilan Academy, on a newly requisitioned open space, a brand new sign stood upright, displaying "Furnace Casting School Residence."

This was Elan using the Academy Head's special privilege to make this area the temporary residence of the Furnace Casting School.

There were only two isolated buildings here now: one for the newly recruited apprentices to live in, and the other for them to practice Spells.

And in a spacious room, two apprentices of the Furnace Casting School were practicing Spells.

Kahn released the Spell, Steam Jet, against a specially made wall.

He was very skilled, simply raising his hand, placing the release node on one finger, and compressing the path of the steam into a narrow stream.

A rapid roar sounded in his ear, and white steam jetted from his finger, directly impacting the wall.

A large indentation appeared on the hard wall. Kahn compared it to the indentation and was very satisfied.

But at the same time, a sense of unease welled up in his heart. Although the power of this Spell was decent, this Spell alone would not be enough to achieve a good ranking in the Assessment.

Although the Furnace Casting School currently had few Spells, its actual strength was slightly higher than that of the Modification School due to the long-range Steam Jet Spell.

After all, the Spells of the Modification School were just for show; what they were truly good at was Modification.

But it was only slightly stronger than the Modification School; compared to other Schools, it was still inferior.

The Elemental School could simply cast a large fireball and surpass it in power, and other Schools also had their own powerful Spells.

"No, I need to buy some basic Spells."

Kahn knew that relying solely on this Spell was not enough to win the Assessment; he had to practice basic Spells.

Then he turned to look at Ossian, his best friend, thanks to whose help he was able to join the Furnace Casting School.

Ossian was manipulating parts on a table, and three or four crossbows were scattered across it.

He walked over and asked,

"How's your device coming along?"

Ossian looked up and replied,

"With Energy Conversion, it can automatically load crossbow bolts. I just need to place the crossbow bolts on it. I'm currently making a bolt slot."

Kahn looked at the crossbows on the table and asked,

"Can these be brought into the Assessment?"

Due to the special nature of certain Schools, to maintain balance, the Administrator of Apprentice City would limit the number of items each School could bring in.

For example, if the Modification School brought in a fully armed squad of twelve Modified Humans, who could possibly defeat them?!

The Necromancy School could also awaken a dozen evil spirits, plus dozens of skeletons, to engage in a group fight, using all their Spiritual Power to maintain a massive army.

If these Schools played like that, other Schools wouldn't stand a chance, so the equipment brought into the Assessment had to be restricted.

Bringing one crossbow wasn't an issue. At the apprentice stage, not everyone had extra magic power to cast stronger Mage Shields.

More often, someone would cast a fireball, and I would then pull out a crossbow and shoot, just breaking your Mage Shield and causing you damage.

But what if I brought in four crossbows and didn't act as a Mage, relying entirely on weapons for output?

"It's fine. I asked Mentor Elan, and he said that as long as your equipment is Spell-driven, they won't stop you. They only stop those without Spells."

For the Assessment organizers, it only made sense to determine rankings by apprentices casting Spells.

The previous restrictions on the Modification School and Necromancy School were for balance, and the later restrictions on remote equipment brought in were to ensure the rankings weren't wasted.

If you went in and just started shooting crossbows, you might get eliminated by a strong opponent, but even if you eliminated weaker ones and got a ranking, it would be useless because you didn't use Spells and wouldn't pass the test at all.

However, for equipment driven by Spells, it seemed to be a different matter, as long as you genuinely used Spells to operate it.

Kahn watched his friend continuously manipulate these parts, and admiration rose in his heart.

He could do these things too, but he had never thought of doing them this way, while Ossian often had clever ideas.

The self-cocking crossbow was Ossian's own invention. He thought of using gears and guide rails, so that by releasing Energy Release, it could be automatically cocked.

"When the time comes, we'll each carry three or four, so we won't be afraid of..."

Just then, there was a knock on the door, and a voice came from outside.

"Mentor Elan requires us to gather."

"We know."

Kahn immediately responded, letting the apprentice outside leave. He and Ossian then began to tidy up the things in the room slightly.

---

When Kahn and Ossian arrived at the gathering place, the moment they entered, they saw two people wearing robes with the Casting Hammer emblem.

"Two Formal Mages," Kahn whispered to Ossian.

He could see that one of them was Mentor Elan, whom they often dealt with, but who was the other one?

They had also met Mentor Harbos, the Head of the School, who had only briefly taught them about some rare materials.

But who was this new female mentor? They had never seen her before.

"Do you know who that is?"

"I don't know, maybe it's the apprentice taken in by Mentor Harbos. I heard she was only one step away from being a Formal Mage, wasn't she? Maybe she's been promoted."

"You must be joking. I remember that apprentice hadn't gotten a ranking yet, so how could she be promoted? I think she transferred from another School."

Several other apprentices from the Furnace Casting School whispered among themselves, discussing who this new mentor really was.

Seeing that the last two had arrived, Elan cleared his throat and then said,

"Everyone is here, we can begin."

The apprentices immediately fell silent, all turning their gaze to Furan.

Furan walked to the materials specially placed aside and said,

"I am Furan, a newly promoted Formal Mage, also belonging to the Furnace Casting School. Today, I will teach you how to create a powerful weapon."

With that, Furan used Hand of Telekinesis to pick up a piece of refined iron and ignited it directly in the air.

Upon hearing Furan's words, the apprentices also focused their spirit. Up to now, none of the courses they had encountered in Apprentice City were useless. The content taught by Mentor Harbos last time had benefited them greatly, making them realize there was so much to making things.

And now another mentor was going to give a lecture, starting with teaching them how to make a powerful weapon, and it seemed she would demonstrate it live. How could this not excite people?

In the crowd, Ossian watched the iron ingot instantly turn red in the air, with signs of almost melting into liquid, and said doubtfully,

"Why can she heat it up so quickly?"

"She's a Formal Mage now, so it's normal for her flames to be stronger!" Kahn said, staring intently at Furan's casting.

Furan shaped it into a long tube, then hollowed out the middle, preparing to engrave rifling inside.
