"You're going to cross the Antir Antire?"
Elan stood in the office, looking at Furan with some surprise.
"That's right. The Northern Lands Academy is naturally in the north. It seems it was placed there because there was no other space when the Alliance was allocating land to them."
In fact, there were Alliance political struggles involved behind this. Back when the Northern Lands Academy didn't even have the name 'Northland' yet, it had already raised the slogan of welcoming mages from all Schools to join.
This caused some Schools to view them with displeasure, and they specifically meddled when it came to assigning an exclusive base.
They first contacted a lord in the north who had always wanted to join the Alliance, agreed to his request, and incorporated his territory into the Alliance's scope.
Then, they directly shared this piece of land with the Northern Lands Academy as its base, forcing the Northern Lands Academy to conduct its activities far away from the Alliance.
This left the surrounding lords, both those who wanted to join and those who didn't, completely dumbfounded at the time.
Those who wanted to join were just short of holding daily banquets to celebrate, but after spending a great deal of wealth, they received nothing.
Lords who didn't want to join became even more militaristic, vigorously recruiting subjects and building defensive facilities, preferring to die rather than surrender to the Alliance. In the end, all their preparations were in vain, as the Alliance had no further plans for them at all.
This resulted in the Alliance having an enclave in the north, with many small factions blocking the way in between.
Although with the Alliance's strength, it wasn't impossible to take all these territories.
However, the Alliance didn't take them purely because the lands were too terrible—heavily populated, poor in resources, and with few minerals. Trying to gather an invasion force wouldn't even yield enough profit to distribute, so they simply left them there.
And the Antir Antire happened to be a mandatory passage to the Northern Lands Academy. If one were to bypass this area, the distance would double, and the time consumed would increase even more.
So, Furan had no intention of bypassing this area. She had a premonition that the future she had encountered was within the Antir Antire.
"Then why go to such a distant Academic Society? Wouldn't a closer one work?"
Elan looked at Furan in confusion. There were many Academic Societies in the Alliance; as long as you wanted to join, you could certainly get into one.
For instance, Elan had joined three Academic Societies: the Alcohol Research Society, the History Research Society, and the Regional Folklore Society, which everyone in the Edict School joined.
These were all Academic Societies that could hardly be associated with Spell research, yet he could still claim to be a researcher to the outside world.
But it was useless. Other than some minor tricks, there was nothing he could exchange for in these Academic Societies; at most, they had some indirect effect on his Spell studies.
He looked at Furan with envy in his eyes.
Every promoted Formal Mage would rack their brains to join an Academic Society to pave their way toward higher-tier promotion.
And he wasn't as lucky as Furan to have a Fourth-Tier Mage as a mentor.
To be honest, before meeting Harbos, he had never even seen a Professional above the Third-Tier.
"The Northern Lands Academy has what I need, and it fits my plans," Furan explained.
"As for closer ones... Mentor Harbos seemed to recommend a Yobner Society, but I thought about it and didn't go."
Elan was suddenly stunned, unable to believe the decision Furan had made. He confirmed again:
"Yobner Society?!"
"Yeah, it seems to be an Academic Society over on the Elemental School's side."
Elan swallowed hard. He didn't know exactly how strong Yobner Society was among Academic Societies; as an Academy that specialized in cultivating core members, it wouldn't let an outsider like Elan know.
However, some busybodies in the History Research Society where Elan belonged had once ranked the various Academic Societies.
At that time, the rankings were divided into hundred-year intervals. He remembered that in the last hundred years, Yobner Society ranked first among all Academic Societies.
And in the rankings of the past five hundred years, although Yobner Society had never taken first place again, it consistently ranked in the top five, making its overall ranking still number one.
Back then, he had been discussing this list with friends in a tavern, pointing at Yobner Society and several other Academic Societies with names he didn't recognize, saying:
"Why don't these Academic Societies just carve their research direction on their names? Look, the Academic Society of the Necromancy School is just called the Necromancy Society. It's clear at a glance."
"Exactly, exactly. I think these Academic Societies aren't even as good as our History Research Society; at least our direction is clear. Whoever made this list made a total joke of a ranking!!"
And his friend had echoed him in such a way.
Now that even Harbos, a Fourth-Tier Mage, had recommended Yobner Society, he couldn't help but believe that this Academic Society was truly powerful.
What surprised Elan the most now was that Furan wasn't even going to Yobner Society, but was going to that Northern Lands Academy instead.
He believed Harbos must have explained the Academy to Furan in detail, yet Furan still didn't go.
A drop of cold sweat rolled down Elan's forehead. He couldn't even imagine what kind of even more powerful Academic Society this Northern Lands Academy could be to make Furan choose it.
But in the end, a thousand words boiled down to one sentence.
"Alright then, good luck to you."
No matter how much he said, it was Furan's own business. It was useless for someone like him, who was still working hard just to qualify for the Investigator Assessment, to say more.
The fact that Furan could become a Formal Mage so quickly was enough to surprise him. With a Fourth-Tier Mage as a mentor, couldn't she just pick any good Academic Society she wanted?
So it wasn't strange for Furan to join a good Academic Society. When Furan became a big shot in the future, he could even go and beg her to pull him into an Academic Society for the sake of their past friendship.
"What are you talking about? Aren't you helping me process my graduation registration today?"
Furan had come to Cuilan Academy today specifically for this graduation registration. Chatting so much with Elan just now had made them go a bit off-topic.
Others might say, you're already a Formal Mage, why are you still coming here to register?
This involved the Alliance's registration system. The Alliance had corresponding records of where every mage worked. If you didn't even have a graduation record from an academy, you could forget about participating in any Alliance Assessment.
So this was still a very important matter, concerning the future prospects of every mage.
"Sorry, I almost forgot." Elan finally remembered and immediately began checking the materials Furan had brought over.
Furan continued from the side:
"Also, it's not like I'm leaving immediately. I'll need at least a week or two to prepare."
Elan's hands didn't stop, quickly circling and marking the materials.
Then Furan seemed to remember something and said:
"By the way, how is the recruitment for the Furnace Casting School's new academy going?"
Elan slowed down his work slightly.
"There are a few who can understand your writings. With your mentor's approval, they've been absorbed in and are still learning the two Spells you created."
"That's good. Harbos wants me to go and teach those apprentices before I leave."
