Chapter 89 - Chapter 86: Search

Apprentice City Lodris, Law Enforcer Building.

The Law Enforcer Captain jogged over to Karlf's desk and said:

"Investigator, the day you wanted us to watch out for, when the bodies would be transported out of the city, is today. Tonight, those Mercenary will transport all the bodies out."

"Very good. When they stop delivering bodies at six in the evening, we'll go there for a surprise inspection."

The Law Enforcer Captain was somewhat puzzled and asked:

"Sir, why are we going to inspect? This has nothing to do with..."

Karlf waved his hand and said:

"You're not a member of these two Schools, so you might not know."

---

"Actually, the most common channel for apprentices to acquire body materials is this Crippled Body Delivery Point."

"Those Mercenary also know that apprentices greatly need bodies. As a very dangerous profession, they naturally don't lack bodies in their work. Although they aren't as high quality as those specially selected by merchants, they make up for it in quantity."

"As long as they know how to pick out usable bodies, apprentices can save a sum of money, and those Mercenary are even more willing to make such trades. Exchanging worthless bodies for copper coins is simply too good a deal."

"And the one we're after is a mercenary named Hyde. He specifically sells the body materials he collects at this body delivery deadline, and he exclusively sells them to the Modification School."

"That mercenary would never have imagined that the usual perfunctory searches would cost him his life this time. And the fact that he exclusively sold to the Modification School will also bring trouble to the Modification School..."

The Law Enforcer Captain watched Karlf speak and almost laughed. He raised an eyebrow and said nothing more.

Although he was still very confused about how this related to the disappearance of the Modification School's head, which they were investigating, Karlf mentioning bringing trouble to the Modification School made him wisely keep his mouth shut.

Although their Law Enforcement Team was considered a dominant force in Apprentice City, and many apprentices had to heed their dispositions, when it came to matters related to Schools, it was best for the Law Enforcement Team not to ask too many questions.

Furan covered her face, put on a gray-black robe, pulled the hood over her head, and also wore a pair of thick black gloves.

Before she even reached the place, she felt hot, sweating all over. She could only put down the Body Bag on her back and carry it with her Hand of Telekinesis, which also reduced her body heat.

After finally arriving, she reached into her hood and brushed a sweat-soaked strand of hair back to alleviate the discomfort. Now, all she wanted was to finish quickly and return.

She walked straight towards the queue of people. The end of the queue was inside a small house. Even from a dozen people away, Furan could smell the putrid odor inside.

The line moved quickly, and soon it was Furan's turn. Furan carried the body with her Hand of Telekinesis and entered the room.

Upon entering the room, she first smelled an extremely strong stench. The house had many ventilation openings, and several Mercenary sat upwind, relaxed and at ease.

Following the actions of the person in front of her, Furan threw the body on the ground and was surprised to find that she could leave, because the person in front of her had also left without any inspection.

What? They're not even checking the bodies? And they just left.

Her powerful Spiritual Power overheard the Mercenary' whispered conversation, which answered her confusion.

"We're all sitting here, not going to check the bodies? I remember that Mage specifically told us to open and inspect these bodies."

"New here, aren't you? You don't know that those Mage Lords say this almost every time. So what if he gave us a few more copper coins this time?"

"It stinks too much there. Go if you want to."

"If you really go to check, do you think those problematic apprentices won't take it out on us? If they cast a Spell on you, tricked you, and then accidentally messed up your brain, who would you complain to?"

Only then did Furan realize that these Mercenary didn't dare to inspect. It made sense; anyone who could keep these apprentices in line would have to be someone who had joined a School for many years. What anomalies could a group of Mercenary guarding this place find?

However, Mage Lords still had normal senses of smell. Usually, if a body was a bit smelly, it would be directly thrown here. Why would they come here to guard bodies that had been left for who knows how long?

But this also gave her an opportunity to fish in troubled waters. Although she wasn't afraid of conflict, she still preferred to avoid trouble if possible.

She walked out of the small house, not having expected the matter to go so smoothly.

"Everyone stop! Alliance Law Enforcement Team, and Alliance Special Investigator!"

Several people in law Enforcer uniforms, carrying something similar to a blockade tape, quickly surrounded the area, causing a commotion.

A few Mercenary outside couldn't stand it and ran in another direction, leaving the apprentices they were talking to somewhat bewildered.

But the law Enforcers were prepared, and some immediately rushed forward. One mercenary who ran a bit slower was caught directly and pinned to the ground.

"Damn it, some still got away. I'll chase them."

However, those Mercenary seemed experienced and ran incredibly fast, disappearing in a blink of an eye. Several law Enforcers immediately gave chase.

Meanwhile, the apprentices next to her began to whisper:

"What's going on? Why are the law Enforcers here?"

"I don't know. I think we'd better not move. I also heard 'Alliance Investigator'..."

"What Investigator?"

...Furan looked at the chaotic scene before her and shook her head helplessly. How did she end up in such a situation?

Although she could certainly escape now if she wanted to, with everyone being Mages, someone with her high physique wouldn't be afraid of their pursuit at all.

She also had a Breathing Technique specializing in speed. If she also activated her Spiritual Power, it's estimated that unless they found a Tier 1 Melee Professional, they wouldn't be able to catch her.

However, she had made many efforts to hide her identity before coming, believing that as long as there wasn't a detailed search, she could slip through. Thus, there was no need to escape now and attract attention.

Moreover, she also knew about the Alliance Investigator mentioned earlier, and she knew a little about this identity... If she wasn't mistaken, only Formal Mages could hold this position. If she ran now, it was hard to guarantee that the other side wouldn't have some tracking Spell to follow her.

But if she found that Formal Mage and dealt him a severe blow, he naturally wouldn't have time to cast a Spell, and then she could run as she pleased.

Karlf walked over from the other side of the street, accompanied by several law Enforcer members carrying several Mercenary. Upon closer inspection, those were indeed the Mercenary who had tried to escape.

"Which of you is Hyde?"

He came before everyone and slowly spoke.
