Inside Furan's home at Cuilan Academy,
Furan sat before a large furnace. She gazed at the corpse inside and calculated the time.
"Wait, it's been three hours, and I'm even using magical flames. Can this thing still not be incinerated?"
Lying inside was Beloli's corpse. Furan thought it wasn't good for the body to keep lying around, so she set aside a day to dispose of it.
However, the situation was beyond Furan's expectations. In her mind, no matter what you were, you should have turned to ash inside that furnace.
But reality slapped Furan hard in the face. It wasn't that the fire had no effect on Beloli's corpse, but rather that only parts of it had been burned to ash.
After the flames died down, Furan used the Hand of Telekinesis to pull out the still-warm corpse and inspect every part of it.
The parts of the body that had dissolved were indeed reduced to ash by the fire, but a significant amount of flesh and skin remained.
From the lower body, all the flesh and skin below the calves had disappeared, leaving only silver bones protruding. They still maintained a complete foot structure.
The upper body was a gruesome sight. There were holes everywhere from the waist to the shoulders, with only a little flesh still connecting them. Through some of the larger gaps, one could see the internal state of the body.
After being burned, the corpse was covered in a layer of black soot. Furan used the Light-Praying Art to illuminate the interior of the body.
The internal organs had vanished, and most of the ribs in the chest were gone, yet the back of the corpse remained very intact.
Furan used the Hand of Telekinesis to wipe away some soot, revealing the spine. It reflected a grayish-brown light, clearly indicating it was no ordinary object.
Moving to the head, the flesh at the neck was still relatively intact, showing the large hole Furan had left when she extracted the Transcendent Organ.
At the eye sockets, bone was exposed, showing they were empty; one could see directly into the interior of the skull.
Furan inspected the spine and realized it would be difficult to remove intact, so she gave up on the idea of taking it.
In her view, Beloli must have used some method to cultivate her own spine into this state, rather than having it replaced.
Therefore, this spine likely had no transplant value, and Furan was currently unqualified to possess such organs anyway.
Her current thought was to hurry up and dispose of the body. Although she could probably get away with it thanks to her Fourth-Tier Mage mentor if she were discovered, she would end up making an enemy of the Modification School.
Furan did not want to make an enemy of such a School; if she could keep it hidden, she would.
But now the furnace couldn't burn the corpse, and Furan's old method of burying bodies was absolutely unusable now.
It was said that the Modification School and the Construction School had reached an agreement to search all the land in the city. Many First-Order Mages were involved in the search because Furan's previous burial had made both Schools realize that Beloli's corpse might also be buried underground.
Furan knew the methods of the magical world. Last time, Richter's body had been crushed to pieces, yet some genius had still managed to find it.
This time, they were specifically looking for underground corpses. Furan estimated that if she really buried it, it would probably be found very quickly.
In that case, why even bother burying it? Wouldn't it be better to just dump it on the street in the middle of the night? All this effort was to ensure no one found the body and to leave as few clues as possible.
"Then I can only use that somewhat risky method."
The method Furan spoke of wasn't for hiding, but for diverting people's attention elsewhere.
The Modification School and Necromancy School were major consumers of corpses. Not only did the Schools themselves order corpses to be brought into Apprentice City, but the apprentices also placed orders with many unscrupulous merchants. After all, corpses were essential for their study of Spells and knowledge.
Not all corpses were eventually recycled into things like modified humans; most corpses used by these apprentices were so mangled they were almost unrecognizable, with some even having only half their bones left.
These mangled corpses were clearly impossible to recycle. In fact, most corpses ended up this way. After all, apprentices were often clumsy, and you couldn't expect the materials used for their practice to stay in good condition.
As a result, the two Schools produced a large number of worthless corpses. If this trash were allowed to pile up, both Schools would likely be reeking by now.
One might ask, why not just collect these corpses and burn them?
The two Schools did collect the corpses, but they chose a more economical method—burying them outside the city.
They would pay a small fee to the Mercenary of Apprentice City to haul these corpses out of town. After that, the Mercenary could do whatever they wanted, as long as they didn't bring the bodies back.
After being hired many times, the Mercenary had developed a mature behavioral pattern: burying the corpses in designated spots, with limits on the amount allowed in each area for a certain period.
If too many corpses were buried in one spot, one would be surprised to find skeletons starting to spawn there. That was why the Mercenary had this pattern—to prevent unnecessary accidents.
Furan's plan was to mix Beloli's corpse in with these disposed bodies and have the Mercenary transport it out.
Of course, she knew the Modification School was searching strictly now, and they might discover Beloli's corpse among them.
She would disguise herself as an apprentice from one of the two Schools to hand over the body bag.
If the Mercenary discovered the corpse while burying it, the people from the Modification School, upon seeing its wretched state, would clearly see the traces of organ extraction using Modification Studies.
This might cause the Modification School to turn its gaze inward toward its own members. This was better than dumping a corpse on the street and letting the School continue its search.
As long as she could run away immediately after handing over the corpse, the Modification School would never find any trace of her and would look inside their own School instead.
To be safe, she didn't plan to go now, but rather wait until she was promoted to a Formal Mage.
She would soon be able to create a second Spell to form a system. At 그 that time, she would directly practice several Spells to the mastery level, bringing her Spiritual Power to 3.5 and satisfying the final condition for promotion.
Even if a Formal Mage tried to catch her on the spot, she could rely on the strength of a Formal Mage to escape, rather than using the Blood of the Furnace to kill them instantly, which would directly expose her identity.
By then, who would associate the actions of a Formal Mage with an apprentice who hadn't even placed in the Assessment?
