Chapter 78 - With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility

"Alright, I've already held back considerably. This was just a lesson. Remember, don't overestimate yourself next time. Your enemies won't show you any mercy."

Chen Ye spoke slowly to Peter, who lay defeated on the ground, his cape billowing in the wind.

Peter lay there, his eyes wide with astonishment and confusion.

He replayed the earlier scene in his mind, still trembling from the near-death experience.

The moment he saw Chen Ye unleash the Knight Kick, he saw his entire life flash before his eyes.

He thought his end had come, but to his surprise, Chen Ye's kick hadn't been fatal.

He looked up at the Masked Rider, his eyes filled with awe and gratitude.

He knew he had brought this upon himself by overestimating his own strength.

He also understood that this lesson was meant to expose his weaknesses, so he would fight more cautiously and rationally in the future.

"Thank you. May I ask who you are, and why you're teaching me these things?" Peter struggled to his feet and bowed deeply to the Masked Rider.

"I know I was wrong. I'll remember this lesson and never make the same mistake again."

Peter was incredibly curious about who was behind the mask, someone who had so diligently taught him and wielded such immense power.

*Could it be Uncle Ben? No, he's too old.*

*Then it must be Harry! The more Peter thought about it, the more likely it seemed. Only Harry's family had the resources to create such high-tech Knights.*

Chen Ye watched Peter, a flicker of satisfaction in his eyes. He knew Peter had finally understood his intentions.

He hoped this experience would teach Peter to become more mature and responsible.

"I'm just a passing Masked Rider. I'll come back for you," Chen Ye said, stepping into the portal.

Turning back to look at Peter, who was still standing there, dazed, he called out, "Come on! Are you going to stand there all day?"

Peter snapped out of his trance and scrambled toward the portal, diving into the golden light. This time, he carefully observed the shimmering circle.

But he couldn't make heads or tails of it. After all, passing through the gate had simply returned him to the exact same spot.

Just as Peter was about to ask about the Masked Rider, he turned around and found the hero had already vanished.

Though Peter couldn't help but feel a pang of disappointment, he was quickly captivated by his newly acquired spider abilities. All his dejection vanished like smoke.

As evening approached, still basking in his joy, Peter happened to see his neighbor, the goddess Mary, standing at her door.

His heart stirred. He wanted to walk over and strike up a conversation with her. Since gaining his spider powers, Peter had become far more confident. Before, he wouldn't have dared to approach Mary, only daring to watch her from afar.

However, just as Peter was about to approach, Mary was called over by her new boyfriend.

Watching Mary walk hand-in-hand with her new boyfriend toward a brand-new car, Peter's heart was filled with mixed emotions.

The joy of his newfound superpowers was washed away by the scene before him.

He had thought that with superpowers, he could finally impress Mary and win her over.

But now this scene made Peter understand a truth.

In this world, only money mattered. Only with money could Peter hope to catch Mary's eye.

With this thought, Peter clenched his fist, his eyes burning with a desperate longing for wealth.

He resolved to return home and thoroughly research how to use his superpowers to make money. He would buy a car!

Peter could only watch helplessly as his goddess, Mary, drove away in someone else's brand-new car.

Back home, Peter immediately grabbed the newspaper and began scanning the car listings for vehicles he could afford.

His eyes darted across each line, each word, as if searching for the dream in his heart.

First, a Bentley priced at $30,000 caught his eye. Peter shook his head; the price was far too steep for him to afford. He sighed and continued scrolling.

Next, a Porsche for $25,000 came into view. Peter frowned; he wasn't particularly fond of Porsche's styling.

Peter turned the page. $15,000—he could use that money to help Uncle Ben and Aunt May with household expenses. Buying a car would be too extravagant. He continued scrolling, and just as he was about to lose patience, he finally saw a glimmer of hope.

On the last page, a convertible sports car priced at just $2,598 caught his eye.

Peter's eyes lit up instantly. He felt an overwhelming urge—this was the car he wanted!

He declared that the price didn't matter; the convertible was the real draw. The decision was made.

He began pondering how to raise the money. Just as he was racking his brain, a news advertisement caught his attention.

The ad promised a $3,000 prize for surviving three minutes in a professional wrestling match.

Peter's eyes lit up again. He saw a glimmer of hope.

He thought of Mary. If he could win this match, he could buy that convertible. Mary would surely look at him with new eyes—perhaps even throw herself into his arms.

This vision filled Peter with motivation. He decided to enter the match.

Suddenly energized, Peter began designing his wrestling attire overnight.

In his mind, he painted a picture of a wonderful life with Mary, imagining them cruising down the street in that convertible.

This beautiful vision filled him with strength, and he resolved to win the competition.

Thus, Peter spent a long night in a mixture of fantasy and effort.

The next day, Peter eagerly prepared to leave the house.

Uncle Ben offered to walk him to the competition, but Peter refused, not wanting to trouble him.

Yet Uncle Ben had already dressed and insisted on accompanying him. "I was just about to step out for some fresh air anyway. Let's go together." His tone made it impossible for Peter to refuse.

They soon arrived at their destination.

Peter, clearly eager to get to the competition, slung his backpack over his shoulder and prepared to leave.

"Thanks, Uncle Ben. I'm heading off now," Peter said.

"Wait, we need to talk," Uncle Ben said, his voice carrying a slight weight.

"Can we talk later?" Peter tried to postpone the conversation, but Uncle Ben shook his head firmly.

"If you're willing, we can talk now." Uncle Ben's voice held an undeniable firmness that left Peter no room to refuse.

Peter sighed in resignation, knowing he couldn't avoid this talk. He rolled his eyes and said impatiently, "What is it? Does it really have to be now?"

Uncle Ben looked at Peter, a flicker of worry passing through his eyes.

He said solemnly, "Yes, we need to talk. We haven't had a proper heart-to-heart in a long time."

Peter frowned, puzzled as to why Uncle Ben would bring up such topics now. He didn't feel he had done anything wrong.

"You don't do chores anymore. When you get home, you just lock yourself in your room and do your own thing."

"You're changing, and I understand. At your age, I was just like you."

Peter wanted to argue back, feeling that Uncle Ben didn't understand him at all. But Uncle Ben didn't give him a chance, continuing, "Peter, the choices you make in the next few years will shape the person you become. Be careful not to go down the wrong path."

"Remember, with great power comes great responsibility," Uncle Ben said, pointing to Peter's chest.

Hearing this, Peter felt a pang of discomfort. He felt Uncle Ben was interfering in his life, trying to control his future. He glared at his uncle and retorted, "Do you think I'll become a bad person? Don't worry about me. Things are different now, and I can handle it. Stop lecturing me, okay?"

With that, Peter slammed the car door open and stormed away without looking back. He didn't see the deep worry and helplessness in Uncle Ben's eyes.

Peter didn't know that, barring any unforeseen circumstances, this would be the last time he would hear Uncle Ben's wisdom.
