Peter, driven by a burning desire for money and Mary, completely ignored Uncle Ben's warnings, his heart set on reaching the wrestling arena.
His thoughts swirled like leaves in a hurricane, erratic and impossible to grasp.
As he stepped into the roaring arena, he was stunned by the sight of tens of thousands of spectators and the passionate performances of the professional wrestlers on stage.
The roar of the crowd, the thunderous applause, and the wrestlers' fierce clashes surged through his nerves like electric currents.
He could almost see himself standing on that stage, hearing the audience's cheers, and feeling the elation of victory.
Uncle Ben's warnings had long been forgotten.
Just as he was steeling himself to sign up for the competition, a familiar voice echoed in his ear: "Is this really a good idea? Have you already forgotten Uncle Ben's advice?"
Peter's heart raced. He glanced around frantically, trying to pinpoint the source of the voice.
Finally, he spotted the source: a figure he knew all too well—his old classmate, Chen Ye.
He stood in the shadows of the hallway, a smile on his face, but his eyes held an indescribable depth.
Peter's vigilance and suspicion intertwined on his face as he stared at Chen Ye, his mind filled with confusion.
He couldn't understand why Chen Ye was here, or how he knew about his conversation with Uncle Ben.
"You... how did you get here?" Peter's voice trembled slightly.
*Could this Chen Ye be a stalker?* Peter's mind raced with suspicion, and he began to wonder if his movements had already been compromised.
Chen Ye, observing Peter's wary expression, replied with a smile, "I just happened to be passing by and saw your uncle talking to you in the car. You didn't seem to be having a pleasant conversation, so I guessed he was lecturing you."
Peter's tensed nerves relaxed slightly after hearing Chen Ye's explanation.
*I misunderstood him. He just happened to be passing by, he wasn't stalking me.*
Peter felt a pang of embarrassment. He had almost made a fool of himself, thinking Chen Ye was a creepy stalker.
"What's this? You seem quite interested in the competition. Are you planning to participate yourself?" Chen Ye asked, a playful glint in his eyes as he looked at Peter.
Peter quickly waved his hands. "No, no! I'm just here to watch. I'm still very interested in wrestling."
Peter didn't want to reveal his true intentions, fearing Chen Ye might report him to Uncle Ben. After all, if Uncle Ben found out he was secretly entering the competition, he'd likely face strong opposition and be prevented from participating.
"Then why don't we watch together?" Chen Ye invited, knowing Peter intended to compete but enjoying teasing him.
"No, no, you go ahead and watch. I'm just going to the restroom," Peter declined. If he stayed with Chen Ye, he'd miss his chance to compete.
Without the 3,000 yuan to buy a car and impress girls, Peter knew he had to act fast. After refusing, he tried to slip away.
Watching Peter's hurried departure, Chen Ye smiled mysteriously.
He knew what Peter would choose, but he didn't let on.
Chen Ye simply left him with a piece of advice: "Whatever choice you make today, think it through carefully. Otherwise, you'll regret it."
Peter frowned, staring at Chen Ye as if he had no idea what the man was getting at. *Could he know I'm going to enter the competition?*
Shaking his head, Peter ignored the puzzling Chen Ye and rushed to the restroom to change clothes and register for the competition.
When he arrived at the registration desk, the clerk couldn't help but frown at his scrawny frame and bizarre outfit. She repeatedly confirmed that Peter truly intended to compete, as he looked more like a clown here for the spectacle than a real wrestler.
However, Peter's resolve remained unshaken by her skepticism. He nodded firmly and submitted his registration form.
After much fuss, it was finally Peter's turn to compete.
The host, holding the roster, read out the name of the next competitor: "Human Spider." He frowned slightly. The name struck him as too ordinary, lacking any real flair.
Without hesitation, he decided to change it himself.
"Next up, please welcome our new challenger, the terrifying 'Spider-Man'!" the host announced with great enthusiasm.
However, the audience, upon seeing Peter's slender frame, held little hope. They believed the young man wouldn't last a minute and that the match was a waste of time.
So, a wave of boos swept through the crowd, as if mocking Peter's overconfidence.
The match began, and Peter showcased the various techniques he had been trained in by Chen Ye the day before.
His movements were swift and precise, each attack catching his opponent off guard.
He skillfully dodged the opponent's attacks, then seized the opportunity to counterattack.
With effortless ease, he defeated the professional wrestler.
The audience was stunned by Peter's performance, unable to believe that such a slender frame could unleash such power.
They began cheering for Peter, their applause and cheers filling the entire arena.
Standing in the ring, Peter savored the joy of victory.
He knew it was all thanks to the "training" he received from Kamen Rider yesterday.
Though the training had been agonizing, every bit of effort had been worth it.
Peter's face was beaming with anticipation. Soon he would have the $3,000 he needed to buy a car and go see Mary.
"Why only $100? You promised me $3,000," Peter said, looking at his boss, who was handing out the bonus, his face full of confusion.
The boss clearly didn't take Peter seriously. "Idiot, read it yourself. $3,000 for three minutes—you only worked two. Be grateful you got anything at all."
His words were cold and heartless, as if he didn't care at all about Peter's feelings.
Peter felt both furious and helpless. He knew his boss had swindled him.
He desperately needed that money, but now he could only watch helplessly as his boss pocketed the fruits of his labor.
He forced himself to suppress his anger and pleaded with the boss to give him more money.
But the boss ignored him, staring Peter in the eye and saying, "Not my problem."
His words stabbed Peter's heart like a knife.
Knowing he'd been cheated, Peter could only turn and walk out the door.
As Peter left, a robber brushed past him.
While waiting for the elevator, Peter instinctively glanced back into the room.
The scene inside was chaotic, clearly the aftermath of a violent robbery. He saw his boss lying on the floor, beaten, his wallet stolen.
Though Peter was somewhat shocked, a more complex emotion dominated his feelings.
Having just been deceived by his boss, he felt a strange, inexplicable satisfaction at seeing him robbed.
So when his boss shouted for him to stop the robber, Peter ignored him, watching impassively as the thief boarded the elevator and rode it down.
As the boss clutched his head and demanded, "Why didn't you stop him? Now he's gotten away!"
Peter echoed the boss's earlier words: "Not my problem."
The boss could only glare at Peter with simmering resentment.
Watching his boss's face, Peter silently cursed him, thinking, *Serves you right.*
Unbeknownst to him, this single decision nearly cost him his uncle his life.
