Chapter 70 - Is the Bully Maguire You?

"So, how am I supposed to complete this mission? That damn riddle-loving Ancient One."

Chen Ye muttered to himself, sitting dejectedly in a cafe outside Columbia University.

He recalled his meeting with the Ancient One two days prior. When he'd asked how to complete the mission, she'd simply said, "You'll know when the time comes." Then she'd tossed the utterly bewildered Chen Ye into a spacetime rift.

He wasn't sure if the Ancient One trusted his abilities or was simply getting back at him for his arrogant display two days ago.

Chen Ye had been in this parallel universe for two days.

Looking at this familiar place—the same Big Apple, the same towering skyscrapers—he noticed the differences. There was no Stark Tower here; instead, Osborn Industries stood tall.

This wasn't so much a parallel universe as it was one tailor-made for Spider-Man. There was no Iron Man, no S.H.I.E.L.D., and no Kamar-Taj.

It seemed Spider-Man hadn't even been born yet. Chen Ye hadn't seen any public rants about the masked vigilante in the Daily Bugle.

He still wasn't entirely sure which Spider-Man universe this was.

"If nothing goes wrong, I should find out today," Chen Ye thought. He'd learned through various channels that a group of university students would be visiting the Spider-Man Museum.

So, he'd dressed up as a tourist early and was now waiting patiently in a cafe on the Columbia University campus.

If everything went according to plan, he should meet Peter Parker here today.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the street, a man in a striped shirt and glasses was pounding on the window of a school bus and shouting, "Hey! Stop the bus!"

"Please, stop!" The man pleaded, chasing after the speeding bus.

This pathetic man was none other than Peter Parker of this parallel universe—the very person Chen Ye was looking for.

The bus driver, instead of stopping, laughed and accelerated. "Just take a taxi, Parker!"

The other students watched the scene with amusement, showing no intention of asking the driver to stop.

Finally, a red-haired woman who had been cozying up to her boyfriend couldn't stand it any longer. This was Mary Jane Watson, Peter Parker's neighbor.

Perhaps out of kindness, or perhaps because Parker was her neighbor, she hurried forward and shouted to the driver, "Stop the bus! He's been chasing us since Woodhaven Street!"

The driver, perhaps fearing a complaint, reluctantly brought the bus to a halt.

The poor Parker, who had been running for over ten minutes, finally managed to board. Panting heavily, he apologized to the driver, "Thanks, sorry I'm late."

As soon as Peter spoke, his classmates erupted in laughter and mockery.

They started throwing crumpled notes at him, clearly trying to embarrass him further.

Peter was used to this treatment; he just wanted to find a seat quickly and sit down.

But when he spotted an empty seat, the student next to it immediately occupied it with both hands, clearly determined to keep Peter out.

With a look of disdain, the student said, "Don't even think about it, you dummy, Parker."

Helpless, Peter continued walking. Every empty seat he passed was met with a shake of the head from his classmates.

Feeling dejected, Peter lacked the courage to assert himself and kept walking toward the back of the bus.

As he passed his neighbor, Mary, Peter smiled at her.

But Mary was currently being hugged by her boyfriend, her gaze darting away as she clearly wanted to avoid any interaction with Peter.

Just as Peter's eyes remained fixed on Mary, a bully classmate suddenly stuck out his foot, tripping him.

Unsuspecting, Peter Parker fell face-first onto the floor, his glasses vanishing.

The bus erupted in laughter again at Peter's humiliation.

This had clearly become their favorite pastime.

The bus continued its journey amid laughter, finally reaching its destination.

However, Parker remained deeply dejected.

After waiting for two hours, Chen Ye spotted Peter Parker among the school tour group.

He left the coffee shop and headed toward Peter.

At that moment, Peter was still greeting his neighbor, only to realize Mary was merely waving at her best friend.

Just as Peter stood there awkwardly, he suddenly heard a voice that made his heart skip a beat.

"Dude, if you like her, just go for it. You'll never get the girl acting like such a simp."

The voice came from a man standing behind Peter, a smile on his face. Peter looked puzzled; he didn't recognize this person.

Chen Ye had now confirmed that this world was the Toby Maguire version of Spider-Man—the most realistic and pathetic Spider-Man.

Yet Chen Ye felt a strange sense of familiarity. This was the man from the first superhero movie he'd ever watched in his past life.

He might not have the individual heroism of Iron Man or Captain America, but he was the most genuine superhero of all.

Peter Parker looked at the overly familiar man and asked, "Do we know each other?"

"My name is Chen Ye. I know you, Peter Parker, right? We were classmates. Don't you remember me?" Chen Ye asked with an innocent expression.

Peter Parker pondered for a moment. He didn't recall having any Chinese classmates, yet this man knew his name.

*Could he really be an old classmate?* Peter wondered.

"You really don't remember? You're that Peter who used to get bullied all the time, right? I was picked on for being Asian too, so I remember you."

Chen Ye quickly fabricated a story, though the reality of Asian students facing bullying in this supposedly free country wasn't entirely false.

Peter was surprised to learn that he and this man had shared similar experiences.

He began to feel a sense of camaraderie and extended his hand to shake Chen Ye's.

"Keep up, class!"

Just as Peter was about to ask Chen Ye more questions, the tour guide hurried him along.

Peter gave Chen Ye an apologetic look. "Sorry, I have to go with the group now. We'll find another chance to chat later."

It was rare for Peter to meet a friendly classmate, and he wanted to talk with Chen Ye longer.

Chen Ye waved his hand dismissively, indicating he didn't mind.

Chen Ye followed along, eager to witness the iconic scene of Spider-Man's birth.
