I quickly popped the hidden compartment back in place.
"There you are," Soren said, appearing by the doorway. "Why did you leave the main wing of the infirmary?" He then eyed Samuel's desk, frowning. "And what are you doing here?"
"I had Samuel do some research on Willow's condition before he got injured," I said. Technically, it wasn't a lie. It just kept out a lot of details that Soren didn't need to know. "I needed to get the documents. Maybe another healer will be able to look at them."
Upon hearing Willow's name, Soren frowned. I felt my chest tighten. I knew it would be effective to bring Willow into this. All of them had a soft spot for her, and I wasn't below milking it for all its worth at the moment.
"You shouldn't be running around alone like that," Soren chastised. "We have yet to confirm that all rogues are cleared out of the territory. You could've been injured."
"But I'm not, so it's fine," I said hurriedly, hoping Soren wouldn't harp on it further.
