[IRIS POV]
I gawked. "So… you took the face of my mother's one-night stand and made everyone think Alpha Rufus had a relationship with her?"
"Well, yes. Back then, I thought it was a good plan. He was a reputable Alpha, and wearing his identity meant that no one in your mother's pack would dare cross me or suspect that I was anything other than what I said I was. Also, since he lived far away, my being missing from her life would not raise any eyebrows," my father said, sounding vaguely proud of himself.
He preened and beamed at me, but he quailed at the sight of my unimpressed face. My foot lifted threateningly over another toadstool.
"So, you were a coward who was playing with my mother's feelings," I said, my voice deceptively calm. "Did you think you were very clever to fool a woman into loving you because you knew you had no chance otherwise?"
My foot touched the top of the toadstool. Immediately, my father panicked. "Iris, please step away!"
"What if I don't?"
