People bustled in and out of the subway station's four exits.
Faye Vaughn asked Finn Hawthorne, "Which exit should we use to escape?"
Finn Hawthorne tightened his grip on her hand and hurried toward the security checkpoint. "We're not escaping. We're taking the subway."
No matter how fast they ran on their own two feet, they couldn't outrun the subway.
Keston's subway lines were extensive. He could pick any route at random and still have a high chance of success.
"The train's here!"
The two scanned the codes on their phones to enter the station. Without even looking, they randomly picked a direction, ran downstairs, and happened to catch a train just as it arrived.
"Careful." The car was crowded. Finn Hawthorne put an arm around Faye Vaughn, pulling her into his embrace.
All the seats on both sides were taken, so they had to stand.
Finn Hawthorne shielded Faye Vaughn, keeping anyone from bumping into her. He stepped back into a corner near the doors.
