Chapter 45
Tori's POV
The sunlight pouring through the window landed directly on my face, forcing my eyes open slowly.
I blinked twice while the memories from last night came crashing back into my head one after the other.
The carriage ride. Kael's silence with a clear scorn written all over his face.
The way he kept glancing at me every few seconds like he was trying to figure out if I was going to break apart in front of him.
"Are you fine?"
Those words had refused to leave my head since yesterday.
It still felt strange hearing concern from someone like him. Kael had always been harsh, unreadable, and terrifying most of the time, yet lately it felt like I was seeing cracks in the walls he had built around himself.
I hated the fact that I liked this version of him better. I wasn't supposed to like any version of him.
