Chapter 44
Riven's POV
The last time I had seen Kael react that way was because of the woman he once claimed he would never stop loving.
The same cold expression he had carried for years had shattered tonight, all because of a girl who was supposed to mean nothing to us.
A slave to us.
The thought alone irritated me.
I walked down the hallway with clenched fists while the images from the party replayed repeatedly inside my head.
The way Kael had rushed toward her without hesitation, the way he had covered her body as though she was something fragile, the way his voice shook slightly when he asked if she was hurt.
It pissed me off more than it should have.
What made her so special?
Why was everyone suddenly orbiting around her like she was the center of this cursed place?
I dragged a frustrated hand through my hair while I kept walking, but my thoughts only became worse the more I tried to ignore them.
That damned dress.
