Chapter 36 - First Week Together

Skylar and Alucard spent their first week just trying to figure out what to do as a couple. Skylar was hesitant to make any moves that were considered romantic. She worried that it would seem forced and make Alucard uncomfortable.

"Skylar," Alucard said as the two walked with each other around the new settlement being built.

"Yes!" Skylar jumped. Alucard laughed, and Skylar's face flushed with embarrassment from how she reacted. "Ah, sorry about that."

"I was going to ask what you wanted to eat," Alucard laughed. "It's almost time for lunch."

"Oh, right, um," Skylar began, rubbing her hands on her pants while walking, her hands sweaty. "We could see what we have to use for making meals, and maybe see if we can find something to hunt to make something new."

"We could," Alucard said, thinking it and looking ahead. Skylar looked at the ground as she and Alucard walked together. Skylar felt her heart shaking with every beat in her chest. She wanted to say something to add ideas for what to make. "What is it?"

"Huh?" Skylar asked, looking up at Alucard. His face filled with worry, and he could see right through Skylar like her feelings had a physical form. "I uh, sorry. What?"

"You were looking at the ground like it was judging you," Alucard said, making a turn to stop in front of Skylar, stopping them both from walking anymore. "What's going on? You aren't quiet like this unless something is going on in your mind."

"Oh," Skylar realized she couldn't hide anything from Alucard. "You're... not wrong there. I was just trying to figure out what to do here. I don't know what to do with a partner past last night."

"Why don't you tell me what is going through your head about all this, then?" Alucard asked, raising his hand to cradle Skylar's face. Skyler subconsciously pressed into his touch. She looked up at Alucard. Alucard's eyes were gentle as they looked into hers. "You can tell me what is going on. You know it won't be a problem if you do."

"I..." Skylar sighed, holding his hand against her face. She took a deep breath and sighed. "I don't know how to go about having a partner. And regardless of that, what the hell am I supposed to do with your sister now glaring at me worse than before?"

"Worse is an understatement, Skylar," Alucard said, and pulled her in by her hips. "But I need you to understand this: I won't let anything get between you and me. I'll find a way to get my sister to understand."

"That's a battle and a half, Alucard," Skylar said, her hands sliding over Alucard's chest. "And even if you did, how long would that last?"

"Come on, have faith in Dracule," Alucard said, pressing a kiss to Skylar's forehead.

"..." Skylar let out a sigh. "Fine, but if she goes for my throat again, I will give up on getting into her good graces."
