Silent liked this woman, she was straight forward. She reminded him of his wife. He couldn't wait to end this transaction so she could go home with his child and wife.
"Thank you for the patronage. I'll include a gift as well. Is there anything else or are we done here?" He asked.
"That will be all." Penelope said. Just as she was going to leave she heard Silent say to her "Miss, please wait."
He walked to one of his men and asked for a box from his office. One the box was retrieved he walked to her and handed her the box. Penelope was puzzled by this gesture.
"I don't know why both of you are stockpiling so many weapons but I would like you to have this. For some reason, I feel a kindred feeling when I see you. It must be because you remind me of my wife." He said as he grabbed the back of his neck and smiled.
Penelope was not sure what to feel at that moment. She did not want to owe anyone favors but she also did not want to turn his kind gesture down. After a few seconds of contemplating she reached out to take the box.
"Thank you...." she said. She decided to leave him a message at the warehouse. She did not want to tell him now in case he went back on his word and kept all the supplies to himself. She would remind him to stockpile food and medicine that afternoon. "Please have everything delivered before 2pm" she said with a smile.
Killian and Penelope were back on the road in no time. Killian glanced at Penelope and asked "Is there anywhere else you'd like to go?"
"What, you don't feel like going back to work?" she asked, amused. She bet that if the world wasn't ending, this man would still be at work.
He chuckled and said "I sent a message to the office telling everyone that the office was closed today. I guess you did not check your emails. How professional of you". He teased. He was enjoying this side of himself. He felt that Penelope and him had the potential to be great friends.
Penelope was also enjoying herself. She really didn't have many friends in her world. Well, the only two friends she had, thought she hated them. She didn't hate them. She just didn't want them to hurt once they found out of her death. She felt pushing them away was better than having them mope around her all day. Acting like she was a fragile doll. She also wanted to spare them that heartbreak. She also had her scumbag ex-boyfriend. He was a good friend, but a horrible partner. She was glad when they broke up.
Killian had asked his personal assistant to buy seeds from farmers, he was sure he could plant in his space. He just didn't feel that his bond with Penelope was strong enough for him to tell her about his space. If she proved herself a worthy ally, he would consider telling her. For now, this was his trump card. He planned on going later to the storage unit and place half of the weapons into his space.
Penelope was thinking bout how to get the supplies in her space without Killian finding out. She didn't fully trust him yet. She needed to make sure he was a trustworthy person before considering letting him enter her space. Luckily her brothers got seeds from farmers, all the animals requested have been brought to their ranch in the outskirts of the city. She was starting to panic, she wished she could have transmigrated 3 months before the apocalypse.
"Killian, are you planning to stay at my house or will you be coming back to my adopted parents home?" Penelope asked, breaking the silence.
"I think staying together is for the best. Would you like to talk to your family first and prepare them for my intrusion?" Killian asked. He was feeling awkward. The feeling of intruding in someone else's home was novel to him.
"Do you think you can come to my place before 7pm? Although communications will be destroyed at 5pm, havoc shouldn't start right away" Penelope wanted to have some time to talk to her family.
"That's possible. I have some things to take care of. I reached out to my friend regarding the anonymous post. He said he would make sure to have it posted in two hours. Giving enough time for those believers to try and prepare for what's coming."
"That's great. I'm glad to hear that." Penelope believed people deserved a chance at survival. This was the most she could help with.
Once Killian arrived at Penelope's residence he reminded her to pick up her half of the inventory and her purchased vehicles before 5 pm. Penelope made an okay gesture and told him to be at her home before 7:15pm.
She remembered reading in the novel that the first wave of awakeners would happen tonight. The first week was the crucial one. Anyone awakening in the first three days were known to be the strongest among the awakeners.
Penelope was sure that her spiritual spring was important. She remembered the feeling when she first drank it. She remembered the pain she felt when she was expelling all those impurities in her body. She wasn't sure what was happening at the time but after reading a few novels last night, she came to a conclusion. The more she thought about it the more she wanted to jump for joy. She was sure that this was heaven's compensation for throwing her into this world.
As Penelope entered her home she heard Aunt Mary telling the body guards to entertain someone in the basement. She was not someone to pry in others business so she just walked towards the kitchen. She was famished.
When her Aunt Mary entered the kitchen, she found Penelope nibbling on a sandwich.
"Dear, I have lots of food ready, why don't you eat something else?" Aunt Mary felt that a sandwich was not enough to satisfy this foodie.
"No need Aunty, this will do for now. I'm going to take a quick shower and then come and help you. I have to step out in a few hours to go pick up our weapons. I purchased ten customized hummers for us. Also, I asked Killian to move in by 7pm tonight. This will give us enough time to talk in the afternoon." Penelope wanted her aunt and brothers to be as cordial as possible with Killian. She understood that having an unknown person around you could be uncomfortable. She also knew that time builds bonds with the right people. She was a perfect example, the one person who stood by her till death was her nurse. Sure she was paid to take care of her, but she was genuine with her. Her tears weren't faked. Her love for her was real too. She truly treated her like a little sister. Penelope would always appreciate that. Before she died, she had already contacted her lawyer and wrote her will. Leaving most of her inheritance to the nurse. The rest was divided between her two friends and a charity group for patience with cancer. She just hoped that the nurse did her best to beautify her corpse. She wanted to look beautiful in her coffin.
