Roman's POV :
Alexander picked Le Bernardin for lunch.
The kind of place where senators closed deals over wine that cost more than most people's cars and CEOs decided who got crushed in the next merger. Everything was white and pristine and cold.
He was already sitting at the best table when I walked in. Dead center of the room where he could see everything and everyone could see him.
Another reminder of who had the power here.
I crossed the restaurant feeling every eye in the place track my movement and sat down across from him.
"Roman." He didn't smile. Just looked at me like I was a spreadsheet that wasn't balancing right. "Thank you for coming."
"You said it was important."
"It is."
A waiter appeared with water and menus but Alexander waved the menus away without even glancing at them.
"We'll have the tasting menu and bring the Château Margaux."
The waiter disappeared as silently as he'd come.
