Amara's POV :
It was monday morning , I woke up and roman was already gone .
There was a note on the kitchen counter in his sharp handwriting. "Board meeting prep. See you tonight."
I made coffee and sat at the dining table scrolling through my phone trying to figure out what to do with an entire day of nothing. No job. No investigation leads until William got back to us about that account. Just hours of empty space I didn't know how to fill.
Sarah texted around ten.
Sarah: Babee ,Dying of boredom. Save me.
Me:Coffee?
Sarah: YES. That place on Lexington with the croissants. One hour?
Me: See you there.
I got dressed and took the car Roman said I could use whenever. A black sedan that still felt weird to drive.
The coffee shop was packed when I got there but Sarah had grabbed a corner table. She waved me over and I squeezed through the crowd.
"Finally," she said. "I was about to lose my mind sitting here alone."
"I'm five minutes late."
