Every time I tried to close my eyes, I saw my mother's fear-stricken face. The silent words I couldn't hear. Then I would remember the servant's message.
The Alpha King wishes to see you tomorrow morning.
And sleep would disappear again.
By the time dawn arrived, my nerves were stretched thin. I wondered what it was this time. The Alpha king summons never turned out well. My sleep deprived when was the first thing Carina noticed when she came to my room.
"You look terrible."
"Thank you." I muttered.
"It wasn't a compliment." I sighed.
"Whatever it is, I still appreciate it"
Carina placed a cup of steaming tea in front of me. It looked good but I was really not interested.
"You know why he wants to see you?"
"No."
The answer was immediate because I had spent half the night wondering exactly that. The Alpha King hadn't traveled all the way here to discuss the weather.
