Chapter 55 - Chapter Fifty Five

The work back to my room felt endless. Immune mind was disturbed by the memory.

If they ever find you... run.

The words won't leave mu head. For the first time, I asked myself questions I had never asked before.

Who was my mother? Why had she been afraid? Who were the they she spoke of? Why didn't she ever tell me anything?

So many unanswered questions that I might never get the answer because my mother was no longer alive.

I barely noticed where I was going. Several people greeted me but my mind barely processed their greetings. A servant nearly collided with me.

I apologized automatically. My thoughts remained elsewhere.

My mother.

Everything kept coming back to my mother. For years, I had accepted that I could remember very little about my childhood. I had been too young when my mother died.

The memories had become faded pieces scattered across my mind. A smile here and a touch there.

The sound of a lullaby I couldn't quite remember anymore.
