"No. No, no, no... that's completely impossible."
I shook my head violently, the movement making my brain rattle against my skull. My stomach lurched with the motion, nausea rolling through me in sickening waves. I grabbed the edge of the porcelain sink, forcing my trembling legs to lift my weight off the cold floor.
The tile had left angry red imprints on my knees, but I barely registered the sting beneath everything else screaming inside me.
How long had I been crumpled there, curled into myself like a woman trying to disappear? Long enough for my body to go numb. Long enough for the world outside that door to keep spinning while mine had shattered into a thousand jagged pieces.
