"What... what are you talking about? How did you know about that?"
My voice trembled, a pathetic, broken sound that grated against my own ears. I stared up at Jerry, my eyes wildly searching his face, looking for a crack, a sign, a cruel joke… anything that meant my worst, most carefully buried secret wasn't sitting right there in his bare hands.
My chest heaved with the effort of staying upright, of pretending I hadn't just watched my entire fortress of lies crumble in an instant. Every wall I had spent a decade constructing, every carefully rehearsed lie, every icy smile I'd perfected over the years, all of it felt suddenly, terrifyingly transparent.
