Sansa's POV
After the door closed, he squatted to my level.
Brushing my hair that had stung my face to the back of my ear.
I looked at him slowly. Stunned. I was expecting him to get it over with, to beat me and humiliate me, or was this part of humiliating me?
I wondered.
"You don't deserve this," he said suddenly.
The words hit me so unexpectedly that I froze.
Huh?
"You don't deserve this cruelty," he continued, his voice softer now. "And I'm sorry this is happening to you."
My heart sank.
What was happening?
Why was he being… kind all of a sudden? I wondered.
This was kindness, right? He had just said I would be punished severely. Was that just for the others to hear?
I was genuinely confused.
Tears slipped down my cheeks again, just when I thought I had run out of tears to cry.
Relief, I told myself. These were relief tears.
"Thank you so much," I said quickly, my voice shaking. "I was trying to explain—I didn't really do what they said—"
