That night, neither of them could sleep. Kelsey lay quietly in her husband's arms, pretending to be asleep. She knew Luca wasn't sleeping either since his fingers moved gently through her hair.
"Don't you want to tell your father?" Luca asked softly. "Maybe he knows how to find your final step."
Kelsey sighed inwardly, realizing Luca also knew that she wasn't asleep. He was even searching for a way to help her. "I've already asked him," she replied quietly. "He doesn't know. No one does."
She had asked everyone, including Ian, the emperor, and Luuk. But no one had an answer.
"I also asked the High Gods of the Netherworld," Luca continued. "Unfortunately… they couldn't determine your final step either."
Over the past few months, Luca had returned to the Netherworld several times with Larden, persuading the other High Gods. With Larden, a peak High God, leading the way, no one dared refuse.
