And when asked, Phil admitted the answer to the riddle was, in fact—Love.
The man had erupted at once, saying Zuri was trying to brag about his relationship with Damaris by saying her name as the answer to the riddle.
"So he is telling us the answer is Damaris because he is in love with her? That Damaris is love itself?"
Though he had not reasoned that way when he gave the answer, Zuri only shrugged at their conclusion.
And just like that, he won the final riddle.
Then came the last test—drinking.
And they drank until they were sprawled across tables, over one other.
"Let me tell you something, Zuri," James slurred, cheeks red and eyes unfocused. "Just because you are courting her does not mean you have won."
"Is that so?" Zuri asked lightly.
Unlike the rest of them, the ale was yet to get the better part of him, thus his gaze remained clear.
