"Then sleep." he said simply, stroking the length of her hair from her head down to the small of her back, repeating the motion so gently that her eyelids truly began to grow heavy.
"I fear Milcah will find us and kill me." She chuckled.
"I will save you from her grasp before then," he promised. "So for now, just sleep." A soft kiss touched the top of her head and all she could do was hum a response, for sleep was truly taking hold of her.
"Did I tell you?" he whispered over her head as he continued rocking her to sleep. "I was told the same thing… that you are not fully mine yet."
"Is that so?" her words reached his ears, her voice below a whisper—almost inaudible.
"Hm." He hummed and adjusted their position, settling her more comfortably into his arms as he heard her breathing become low and more stable.
"So I was thinking… We must do something about that. And something came to my mind… So Damaris, I was wondering, if I asked you now… what would be your response?"
