Ezra
You were in Richard's room?
"It's not what it looks like," I said quickly.
Allen didn't look the slightest bit convinced.
"I didn't ask you to explain," he said flatly. "So why are you explaining if there was nothing to it?"
I opened my mouth, then stopped.
Because I didn't actually have an answer.
Allen stared at me for a moment longer, then exhaled through his nose.
"Let's focus on getting you back on your feet," he said. "I'll deal with what's left."
Then he turned.
And started walking out.
My heart jumped.
"Where are you going?" I asked immediately.
"To have a little chat with Richard."
I got out of bed so fast, I didn't have time to worry about the wave of dizziness that immediately followed.
"Allen, wait—"
I rushed in front of him and blocked the doorway.
He stopped and looked down at me.
"Ezra. Get back to bed. Now."
"No."
His eyes narrowed slightly.
"Why are you trying to stop me from going to Richard?"
