Sonia's lips curled into a faint, unreadable smile. "Thank you… but I am not yet back."
Rita's eyes widened instantly. "What?" she gasped, the word slipping out before she could restrain herself. Shock rippled across her face, raw and unfiltered.
Last night felt like a miracle when she was able to get through to her. It was something she had almost stopped hoping for.
For months, she had tried to reach Sonia, calling, sending messages, tracking every possible lead, yet it had been as though Sonia had vanished from the face of the earth.
At first, no one suspected anything was wrong. Besides, Sonia had always been unpredictable when it came to her movements especially since she got married into the Horts family.
And a top of it all was her request a week ago, she had informed her of her intention to stay out of public sight. And as usual, they made an assumption that she had matters to attend.
And then came the last instruction she sent.
After that—nothing.
