Scarlett stepped back.
The distance was instinctive. Immediate. Like her body reacted before her mind could even begin to process what he had just said.
"You erased yourself from my memory," she repeated.
The words sounded unreal in her own voice.
Julian did not move toward her this time.
He let the space remain.
"I did," he said.
No hesitation.
No denial.
That made it worse.
Scarlett let out a quiet, disbelieving laugh, but it broke halfway through.
"Do you hear how that sounds?" she asked. "Do you even realize what you are admitting right now?"
His jaw tightened, but he held her gaze.
"Yes."
"And you expect me to just stand here and accept that?"
"No."
The answer caught her off guard.
Julian exhaled slowly, his voice lower now.
"I expect you to be angry."
Scarlett stared at him.
"Angry?" she echoed. "Julian, I do not even know if that word is enough."
Her chest felt tight, like every breath had to force its way through something heavy.
