Scarlett Aurora Whitmore came to New York City with big dreams of becoming an artist. Armed with the address of an agency given to her by her stepsister, she left her hometown without knowing that the address was fake and the agency was known as a place full of traps. Her first day in the capital turns into a nightmare when Scarlett falls victim to a pickpocket and loses everything.

In a state of despair, fate brought her together with Grandma Victoria Caldwell, a kind-hearted grandmother who almost lost her life when she was crossing the road. The morning sunlight of New York slipped shyly through the gaps in the silk curtains of the Manhattan penthouse, casting golden lines that danced across the charcoal-gray sheets. Scarlett frowned slightly, feeling the warm weight wrapped around her waist. She moved slowly, trying to gather her awareness that was still lingering in an unusually peaceful dream.


When she fully opened her eyes, her world seemed to stop spinning.


Just a few centimeters in front of her, Julian Caldwell was lying on his side, supporting his head with one hand. He was already awake, and even more surprising, he was looking at Scarlett with a gleam in his eyes she had never seen before, a gaze that was soft, without its usual layer of ice, and filled with genuine warmth.
