The two of them pushed open the unlatched gate of the courtyard home and slipped past the screen wall. All was quiet in the courtyard.
Cecilia Adler pricked up her ears, faintly hearing the voices of the two nannies coming from the main house.
Ian Quincy couldn't contain himself. He drew a deep breath and bellowed, "Christ—"
Cecilia Adler clapped a hand over his mouth. "The two nannies are the only ones home. Let's just wait. Don't be so hasty."
She pulled Ian Quincy into one of the side rooms.
Just as they closed the door, one of the nannies stepped out of the main house, glanced around, and went back inside. "No one there."
"I thought the baby's mom was back. It's not like this is her first kid. How could she just leave for most of the day? Is she not worried at all that the little girl will reject the formula and throw a fit?"
"Keep your voice down. She just fell asleep."
