Chapter 126: For You
Night fell, and the outskirts of the Magical Beast Mountain Range echoed with the cries of apes and eagles, along with the occasional low growl of large magical beasts. However, back in Qing Shan Town, the mercenaries wore relaxed expressions, feeling a sense of safety.
The outer regions of the mountain range rarely had high tier magical beasts, and the town itself was populated by many human "experts," making it relatively secure.
After their recent adventure, the mercenary group was ready for a well deserved rest.
The moonlight spilled like water, casting a silvery glow over the table and chairs outside the Myriad Medicines Pavilion, a resting spot.
Xiao Yi Xian sat quietly at the table, her white dress gleaming under the moonlight, accentuating her pure and delicate beauty. A glimpse of her snow white ankle peeked out, tempting anyone who saw it to reach out and hold it gently.
"That boy we met during the day is truly terrifying... I can't even imagine how far he'll go in the future," she mused.
A clear voice broke her thoughts.
"Will that little bit of food be enough for you?"
Startled, Xiao Yi Xian turned to see a young man in black approaching under the moonlight.
His clothing, clearly expensive, perfectly complemented his noble bearing. Under the moon's glow, the boy's handsome face wore a roguish smile. There was something subtly devilish about him, a mix of carefreeness and danger.
Unintentionally, her heart skipped a beat.
"It's enough. We girls have to watch our figures, after all," Xiao Yi Xian replied with a light laugh. "Have you eaten yet?"
"I've already eaten," Xiao Yan said casually as he sat down at her table without hesitation.
"You're not from around here, are you?" Xiao Yi Xian asked, breaking the silence as she studied his nonchalant demeanor.
"No, I'm from Wu Tan City," Xiao Yan replied, smiling warmly.
"Ah, from a big city," she said with a soft smile.
Though Wu Tan City was merely a minor city in the Jia Ma Empire, it was still leagues ahead of the small Qing Shan Town. In fact, Qing Shan Town's economy largely depended on the medicinal herb trade that flowed through Wu Tan City.
"Wu Tan City isn't much of a big city," Xiao Yan said modestly, his smile unchanging.
"Typical rich kid, looking down on the rest of us," Xiao Yi Xian teased with a playful pout.
"So, Young Master Xiao, what brings you to the Magical Beast Mountain Range? Are you here to train? With your talent, your family must treat you like a treasure. How could they possibly let you wander around like this?"
Xiao Yan internally scoffed. "Oh, just two Half Saint bodyguards they didn't really overdo it."
Outwardly, he only offered a melancholic shake of his head, feigning a pensive air.
"I'm not here to train."
"Then why are you here? Are you searching for rare medicinal herbs? If that's the case, maybe I can help." Xiao Yi Xian twirled a lock of her hair, curiosity evident in her eyes.
"I heard Qing Shan Town has an extraordinarily beautiful healer, so I defied my family's wishes to come here," Xiao Yan said, grinning as he locked eyes with her.
"And after meeting you, I can confirm the rumors were true."
"You..." Xiao Yi Xian's face flushed pink.
She had suspected earlier in the day that this boy might have a thing for her, but she hadn't expected him to be this bold.
"Such a young age, and already learning to sweet talk girls. You're hopeless," she said, rolling her eyes. Her voice was firm but carried a teasing note. "You're just a kid. I'm not interested in little boys like you."
Blushing deeply, she hurriedly left without looking back.
"Did she just call me a little boy?" Xiao Yan muttered, watching her retreating figure. He twitched slightly, his pride a bit wounded.
It was true his youthful face and age often caused people to underestimate him.
But he didn't mind. Plucking a leftover fruit from her table, he popped it into his mouth with a smirk.
"You can't escape from me, Xiao Yi Xian. I'll make you mine soon enough."
Over the next few days, Xiao Yan made a habit of chatting with Xiao Yi Xian, alternating between serious and teasing conversations. His playful remarks often left her cheeks tinged with red.
The mercenaries, on the other hand, grew increasingly frustrated. Their "White Lotus" was being courted right before their eyes, yet they couldn't do a thing about it. Xiao Yan's terrifying strength made sure of that.
Three days later, at dawn, the mercenary team set out for another expedition into the Magical Beast Mountain Range.
"Why are you walking so far away from me?" Xiao Yan asked, noticing how Xiao Yi Xian kept a deliberate half meter distance between them.
"Ah, no reason. I'm just not used to walking too close to men," she replied nervously, recalling the boy's audacity. His bold words had a knack for leaving her flustered.
"Don't be scared. I won't bite," Xiao Yan said as he grabbed her wrist and pulled her closer.
"Hey! Don't do that!" Xiao Yi Xian exclaimed, her face flushing red. "I told you, I'm not interested in kids like you!"
"If you call me a kid one more time, I'll spank you," Xiao Yan threatened playfully, though his tone carried a hint of mischief.
"Calling the son of the Xiao Clan's leader a kid? Woman, you're bold."
"Damn it, this brat is insufferable!" the mercenaries thought, their teeth grinding in frustration. Mu Li, in particular, was seething with rage.
But before they could vent their anger, a massive Blizzard Demon Ape charged into the group, sending everyone into a panic.
A second tier magical beast, the Blizzard Demon Ape posed a significant threat to the team.
Before anyone could react, Xiao Yan's figure blurred, and he appeared in front of the raging beast.
"Roar!"
The Blizzard Demon Ape raised its claws to attack, but Xiao Yan's hand gently landed on its head.
Crunch!
In an instant, the ape's skull was crushed like tofu, its lifeless body crumpling to the ground. Xiao Yan calmly plucked out the blood soaked magic core from its skull, his black robe spotless.
"Gulp." The mercenaries swallowed hard, staring at the young man in awe and fear.
With such ease, Xiao Yan had dispatched a creature strong enough to devastate their entire group. Did this mean he could just as easily kill a Dou Fighter?
What terrifying strength…
"I only want the magic core. The rest is yours to split," Xiao Yan said nonchalantly before walking away.
The mercenaries exchanged stunned glances, their initial resentment melting into gratitude.
Ignoring them, Xiao Yan approached Xiao Yi Xian, who stood frozen in shock. He wiped the blood off the magic core and handed it to her.
"Here, this is for you," he said, smiling warmly.
