Chapter 127: Xiao Yan's Schemes
"Damn it, he's showing off again!" Not far away, Mu Li's face twisted with fury as he watched the scene unfold. His clenched fists shook, but a glance at his still swollen and bruised lackeys reminded him to suppress his anger.
This kid is too strong. Even all of us together aren't his match.
"I don't need it," Xiao Yi Xian said gently, declining the magic core Xiao Yan offered her. She didn't even hesitate.
"Playing hard to get, are we?" Xiao Yan's lips curled into a mischievous smirk, exuding confidence.
"I've already told you I don't like kids. Why can't you understand that?" Xiao Yi Xian's tone carried a hint of exasperation as her beautiful eyes looked at Xiao Yan with a mix of helplessness and amusement.
Smack!
A soft yet distinct sound cut through the air. Xiao Yi Xian froze for a moment before her snow white cheeks flushed a deep crimson.
He… how dare he!
"I warned you not to call me a kid again. You didn't listen, so don't blame me for this," Xiao Yan said, a wicked grin spreading across his face.
"Aren't you afraid that if I call for help, these mercenaries will tear you apart?" Xiao Yi Xian glared at him, her tone laced with a mix of shame and anger.
"Afraid? Of what? If I wanted, I could kill every one of them here and…" Xiao Yan's gaze swept over the mercenaries before locking back on her. His hand made a small gesture, clearly implying the worst.
Xiao Yi Xian's face paled at the thought. Considering the boy's earlier display of power, she realized he might truly be capable of such atrocities.
"What… what do you want?" she stammered, her voice filled with unease.
"Nothing much," Xiao Yan replied casually, his tone light. "I just want to spend more time with you."
As the group continued their journey, the number of magical beasts they encountered increased dramatically. In just one day, they faced three second tier beasts a highly unusual occurrence for the outer region of the Magical Beast Mountain Range.
Normally, even one second tier beast would severely injure or kill most of the mercenaries, but this time, they had a trump card.
No matter how ferocious the beasts were, none could survive more than a single strike from the black clad boy. The mercenaries, who once wanted nothing more than to rip Xiao Yan apart, now looked at him with deep reverence.
However, their fists still clenched in frustration as they watched him shamelessly flirt with Xiao Yi Xian, leaving her blushing and flustered.
Suddenly, a sharp wolf's howl echoed through the forest.
"Azurewood Wolves!"
"No… it's an Azurewood Wolf Pack!" one of the experienced mercenaries cried out, his face paling.
An individual Azurewood Wolf wasn't much of a threat; a three star Dou Fighter could handle one. But a pack was an entirely different story.
A typical wolf pack consisted of around 100 wolves, often led by a second tier Wolf King. Under normal circumstances, the mercenaries' only option would be to run.
But this time, all eyes turned to Xiao Yan.
If the young powerhouse intervened, the situation could turn from life threatening to profitable. After all, Azurewood Wolf pelts alone were worth nearly 100 gold coins each. With so many wolves, the team could earn a fortune.
Xiao Yan remained calm, pretending not to notice the hopeful glances cast his way.
Seeing his indifference, the mercenaries felt a pang of disappointment. Some began considering retreating.
"You… can't you help them?"
A soft, pleading voice reached Xiao Yan's ears.
Turning, he saw Xiao Yi Xian's beautiful face tinged with worry. Her hopeful gaze made him pause.
"Why should I help them?" Xiao Yan asked with a shrug. "The magic cores of first tier beasts don't interest me."
"But people could die if you don't do something!" Xiao Yi Xian's eyes filled with urgency at his nonchalant response.
Got her.
Xiao Yan chuckled inwardly but outwardly sighed, feigning reluctance. "Since you're asking, I suppose I'll make an exception."
Her anxious expression softened into a radiant smile, one that resembled a snow lotus blooming under the moonlight.
"Thank you!"
"If you really want to thank me, how about marrying me?" Xiao Yan teased, flashing his signature roguish grin.
Xiao Yi Xian rolled her eyes, choosing not to dignify his comment with a response. This boy is so irritating!
Was Xiao Yan truly so kind hearted? Absolutely not.
The sudden surge in magical beasts wasn't a coincidence. Ever since joining the group, Xiao Yan had been using his aura to subtly lure the creatures toward them.
How else would I get the chance to play the hero and win her over?
The wolves emerged from the forest, their emerald green fur glistening in the dappled sunlight.
They charged toward the group, their eyes gleaming with feral hunger.
Xiao Yan smiled faintly and casually picked up a rock. With a flick of his fingers, the stone shattered into dozens of shards, each infused with his Dou Qi.
Swish!Thud!
The shards tore through the air, striking the wolves with pinpoint precision. Each shard pierced a wolf's skull, leaving a gruesome but clean wound.
In mere seconds, over 20 wolves collapsed to the ground, lifeless.
The mercenaries stared in stunned silence.
Just as they began to feel a surge of relief, a powerful gust of wind blew from behind Xiao Yi Xian.
"Watch out!"
The warning came too late. Xiao Yi Xian turned to see a massive wolf, three times the size of the others, barreling toward her.
It was the Wolf King.
Terror gripped her, and she froze. She could only watch as the beast lunged closer, its fangs bared.
In that moment of despair, a strong arm wrapped around her slender waist, pulling her into a warm embrace.
"Argh!"
A single hand gripped the Wolf King's throat. With a sickening crack, its neck snapped, and its massive body crumpled to the ground.
"Are you okay?" a calm voice asked.
Xiao Yi Xian looked up to see Xiao Yan's handsome face, his dark eyes filled with gentle amusement.
"I I'm fine," she stammered, her heart racing.
Xiao Yan released her and turned to the remaining wolves. Flicking another handful of stones, he felled another 20 wolves in seconds.
The rest of the pack, seeing their king slain and their numbers dwindling, fled into the depths of the forest.
"Thank you," Xiao Yi Xian said softly, brushing a stray lock of hair behind her ear.
Xiao Yan smiled warmly. "You're welcome."
