Chapter 177 - Chapter 178: The Millennium-Cursed Family

Nearly being dragged into the Deep Floors and surviving a Level 6 beast was far more dangerous than anything the Freya Familia had pulled. If Roy didn't settle this debt, he didn't deserve a skill like Blood for Blood. He couldn't swallow this insult. Roy believed in immediate retribution; his enemies didn't get to live until the next morning if he could help it.

Through the Ikelos thugs they captured, they knew the Lambton wasn't their doing. Even without a confession, Roy could have guessed. No one is that stupid—attacking a god is the ultimate taboo. Only a god can harm a god.

There was another power at play. One allied with Ikelos and harboring a grudge against Astraea. That left only one target: the Thanatos Familia. They were both hiding in the Knossos Labyrinth. Two birds, one stone.

"Don't get worked up! Your wounds are reopening!" Ryu cried out, seeing Roy's blood soak through his bandages. She had to calm him down, though she felt a chill at the killing intent in his eyes.

Ryu sighed and began changing his dressings. As her cool, gentle hands worked, Roy's pain eased. "Tell me the whole story first," she pleaded.

"Do you know Daedalus? The architect of Babel?" Roy asked.

"Yes. The first follower of Lord Uranus. The legendary 'greatest craftsman in history'."

"Greatest human craftsman," Roy corrected with a sneer. "After building Babel, he entered the Dungeon and was shattered by its majesty. His proudest work was nothing compared to the Dungeon. He developed an obsession to build something even greater."

Ryu listened, entranted. "But that's impossible!"

"He did it anyway," Roy whispered. "He spent the rest of his life in a hidden corner of Orario, building his masterpiece. That is the origin of Knossos: The Daedalus Labyrinth."

Ryu gasped. A secret labyrinth under the city?

"But a human life is too short," Roy added. "So he found a way. He used a curse to engrave his will into his own bloodline. For a thousand years, his descendants have been born under that curse. The moment they see the Labyrinth, they are possessed by the urge to continue his work, driven into endless labor by Daedalus's notes."

Ryu felt a bone-chilling cold wash over her petite frame.Sacrificing one's own descendants just for the sake of an obsession to build a labyrinth is incredibly selfish—more loathsome than even the most conservative and stubborn Elves. Ryu swallowed hard. "So, you're saying..."

"Yes," Roy said. "Even in this era, Daedalus's descendants are still deep underground, continuing to build that artificial labyrinth."

Ryu was speechless. It was horrific. Then, it clicked—Roy's plan for revenge involved her going to the 18th floor to find someone digging. Her brow furrowed deeper. "The people who plotted against us are the descendants of Daedalus?"

"Daedalus has two descendants in this era," Roy explained. "Dix Perdix and Barca. The former is the Captain of the Ikelos Familia; the latter is Dix's older brother, a member of the Thanatos Familia."

"The Thanatos Familia?" Ryu asked, confused.

Roy replied with significant weight in his voice, "The strongest dark Familia in Orario. Period."

Ryu's expression turned grim. If that was the case, she was wide awake and ready for action!
