Reis didn't answer her apology immediately. Instead, he simply looked at her.
One second passed. Then another. Nearly a full minute slipped by in complete silence as his eyes quietly searched hers, almost trying to determine whether every word she had just spoken came from her heart.
Aurora didn't look away. She let him look all he wanted.
Finally, the fox lord's expression softened. His hand slowly rose to cover the one she still had resting against his cheek. His thumb brushed gently across the back of her hand before he shifted his face and pressed a soft kiss against her palm.
"I accept your apology."
Aurora couldn't help smiling.
"But..." His eyes met hers once again and he squeezed her hand lightly. "The next time you need help, ask me first." His tone wasn't demanding. It was simply... earnest. "Don't decide on your own whether I'm capable of helping you or not."
Aurora immediately nodded without hesitation. "I promise. I won't make that mistake again."
