(Valarr's POV)
[Midnight, Some Days Later]
It was a restless night; I couldn't get any sleep whatsoever. I was lying down on the spot on the floor, atop the mat that we use to lie down. I couldn't stop moving and shifting constantly; I was getting frustrated.
The night had gotten humid, and with the windows open, it was still unbearable. I couldn't help but sit up and look to the side.
"Hm....." I said, looking at Mother's sleeping figure, "How could she sleep like this? This humidity is unbearable."
I stood up, shaking my robe a bit and feeling it stick to the sweat on my body. It was a very annoying sensation, if I had to speak the truth. I hated it, I don't know why I have to deal with it so constantly. I never think about it when it is in the middle of the day, I could be drenched in sweat, and I won't care. But the moment I'm trying to sleep, and I still feel like this, it can get very annoying.
I sighed and made my way to the door, opening and stepping outside, looking up at the night sky.
Dragonstone seemed to be quite peaceful and quiet this night. Usually, the sound of the dragons filled the night sky and everyone would sleep with a bit of unease. I mean, they don't attack the village, so it should be fine.
I took in a deep breath, feeling the humidity in the air, which was getting on my nerves.
"Hm....." I said, looking around, "The night breeze ain't helping at all tonight."
I then heard the distant sound of a dragon's roar, which was the usual ambience in Dragonstone. It sounded like one of the dragons in the Dragonmont and by the sound of it, it actually sounded like Meraxes. The dragon of Lady Rhaenys would often roar in the middle of the night, which would wake Balerion up and the two would have what I like to call an argument.
I couldn't help but smile at the thought of the two dragons constantly growling at each other because one woke the other up.
I sighed and looked up at the sky, feeling a bit drowsy, "Hm..." I said, "I ought to go back inside and-"
I stopped talking as soon as I saw a bright light break through the night clouds, a large ball of flames shooting down straight onto the island. The entire area was lit up momentarily by a bright flash of light as the fireball shot down and hit the beach. There was a loud crash, and I felt the ground shake a bit.
"What the hells....?" I said as I ran to the side of the house, seeing that there was a small column of flames that was slowly dissipating, "A falling star?"
It had landed on the beach, around two or three hundred meters away from the village. Something told me to go and investigate, so I did. I took into a sprint and made my way towards where the star had landed.
As I reached it, I felt an intense heat that only lasted for a few seconds before the encroaching cold began to overtake the area. I looked all around the area of the beach, seeing that there were large pieces of black stone that were scattered, almost as if it had shattered upon impact.
I began to cough slightly, some of the smoke getting into my mouth, "Ah...." I said, "Damn....."
As the smoke cleared, I looked at the small crater caused by the impact. Inside, there were large pieces of black stone, similar to the ones that were surrounding it. These were much larger and looked like massive shards.
I stood at the edge of the crater, which was around 15 feet in diameter at least. I looked at the center, which had a large piece of that black stone that was a bit shattered. I couldn't help but notice that there was something shiny in that piece, something that was reflecting the moonlight.
Curiosity took over my body, and I slowly made my way down the crater, feeling that the heat was slowly dissipating completely.
"What.....is this?" I said, reaching the large piece, "What is inside?"
I looked inside, seeing a large oval object that had some strange markings on it. I began to pry off some of the stone, which was easier than I thought. I heard the loud cracking it made as I did it. As I pried all of the pieces off, I saw the object much more clearly.
"Huh?" I said, seeing it better
It looked like a large egg that was black in color with dark orange markings, which resembled a star of sorts. I blinked and reached for it, touching it gently and feeling a bit of warmth in it.
"An egg....." I said, "Is this a dragon egg? No....."
Lady Visenya had shown me an egg or two from the dragonmont, they are much smaller than this one. And they don't have markings like these; this one was a completely different type of Egg.
But what was it?
There was something compelling about this egg, aside from it being massive with strange markings. Something inside me was telling me that I should take it with me, but I was unsure if it was the right thing to do.
I grabbed it with both arms and pulled it off the stone, "Here I....go...." I said, grunting slightly as the weight of the egg was noticeable, "Okay...."
I stepped back, hearing the snapping of the stone beneath my feet. As I moved, I felt the warmth of the egg press against me. I made my way up the crater, feeling the egg in my arms as I moved up the slope.
".....what am I doing?" I muttered under my breath, "Is this even wise?"
As I reached the top of the crater, I looked back down at it, seeing that there was a large amount of black stone scattered about inside. I don't know what it was, but considering that I took the egg out of it, I would assume it had encased it as it fell from the sky.
What was this Egg? It came from a falling star.
I really don't know.
"Hm...." I said, looking down at the egg, "Is this going to be a mistake?"
"I really hope not."
