Chapter 19 - RECOLLECTION(3)

(??? POV)

The monster stood still. The red glow in it's eyes faded, resembling more like a human.

It's gaze dropped to the crushed remains before it. The girl's body... broken beyond recognition. It's face filled with guilt.

???: (...Another poor soul.)

It turned, and walked towards the wrecked car. It stopped beside the wrecked vehicle.

It's eyes narrowed.

???: (..There was, another?)

It crouched.

*Crank*

The hinges snapped like dry twigs. The door was ripped off and tossed aside.

It reached in and gently picked up the girl's remains.

It carried what's left of her back and lowered her body next to the other girl's body.

It, then reached out to it's axe, not the hilt but the blade and slit open a wound. Green blood flowed.

It crouched and began to draw strange markings, symbols on the concrete.

Once finished it sat down, palms clasped together and eyes closed. It started chanting. The markings began to glow purple, each word making them glow even brighter. Then it stopped, opened it's eyes and touched one of the markings.

In that instant both the bodies combusted into mythical blue flames. The fire wrapped around their body, consuming them slowly.

No sound. No ash.

???: "May you have a peaceful slumber."

It stood and walked towards Enoshima.

As soon as it step off the bridge, some of the symbol across it's body flared purple.

In an instant it was consumed by the same blue flame.

It reflexively stepped back, the flames fizzeled out.

It looked down on his own burnt hand.

???: (The curse still lingers.... But weaker.)

Facing the island. It's gaze lingered. Distant, tired.

???: (Mother....)

It turned around.

???: (Just. How long, will this madness continue?)

(End of flashback – Ethan POV)

The surroundings shifts back to the hotel.

Elin stood frozen, her eyes closed and breathing uneven. Sweat rolled down. Her hands shaking. The sounds, the blood, the moment all engraved into her mind.

She took a sharp breath, and another.

Forcing herself back.

*Click, Click*

Ethan snapped his finger in front of her face.

Ethan: "Earth to Elin, Earth to Elin."

Her eyes shot open.

Elin: "Ah–Huh!?"

Ethan: "You, good?"

His face showed a hint of concern.

Elin: "Ah.. Ya ya."

Her mind snapped back.

Elin paused.

Elin: "What, Was I talking about?"

Maybe not completely.

Ethan: "You were just about to say the problem with the bridge."

Her expression stiffened.

Elin: "The main problem is... Ugh–How should I, put this?"

She pondered for a few seconds.

Elin: "There is an incredibly dangerous monster on it."

Ethan: "Could you elaborate?"

Elin: "It has green skin, like the goblins but it doesn't look like them. I would say it looks more like an orc."

Ethan: "I meant abilities."

Elin: "I am getting to that. The monster almost double the size of a goblin with it's physical strength being off the charts.

Dylan: "How strong are we talking about?"

He spoke from the background.

Elin: "It was easily able to throw cars around."

Dylan: "That.. Sounds terrifying."

Elin: "It unfortunately is.. The monster's speed is, actually slower than a goblin."

Ethan: "If that is it, then it doesn't sound toooo bad."

Elin: "No."

Ethan: "Wut?"

I think he means "What".

Elin: "The monster has two giant magic battle axes."

Ethan: "Magic axes?"

Elin: "Ya. That monster can control his axes. It mainly used it to recall his axes back to him."

Ethan planted his his hand on his face.

Ethan: "That's great. We are facing goblin Thor now."

Ethan paused. A reliasation hit.

Ethan: "Wait wait wait. Hold on wait a minute. Did you mean to say, the axe recalled automatically orrr, it intentionally recalled it?"

Elin: "...."

Ethan: "Fuck!.. That thing has intelligence."

Ethan rubbed his forehead.

Ethan: "Any possible weaknesses?"

Elin averted her eyes, the silence spoke for her.

Ethan: "So we are basically fighting Hulk with two Stormbreakers."

Elin: "I don't think it's that strong."

Ethan: "The MCU version."

Elin: "Oh ya. Definitely."

Dylan: "I don't know what you are saying, but it sounds bad."

Ethan turned.

Ethan: "Not reallyyy? Now that I think about it it's better than I thought. If that thing is actually intelligent... Then there is a good chance it left the bridge already. Unless we get unlucky we—"

Elin: "No, it's still on the bridge."

Ethan: "Oh, COME ON! And How do know that? Or better yet, how did you escape that thing in the first place."

Elin: "I managed to get away by jumping into the ocean. I didn't know how to swim and I think I hit my head and fainted. When I woke up, I was washed up on the shore with mostly minor injuries."

Ethan: "And you checked up on the monster before booking it."

Elin: "I didn't have a choice. With my injured body and without a vehicle, even though I wanted to, I really couldn't leave. It kinda felt like the monster was like waiting for something."

Ethan: "Ok, bridge is off limits. What about the ocean? We can use the docks to get a boat off this island."

Elin: "You know how to operate a boat?"

Ethan: "No, but we—"

Dylan gaze immediately shot Ethan down.

Dylan: (Don't you dare.)

Ethan: "I can figure it out."

Elin: "That's not possible."

Ethan: "And of course it isn't. Would you mind explaining why?"

Elin: "The docks are filled with, goblins with no boats in sight but there might be one if find if you search the docks thoroughly."

Ethan: "How many are we talking about? If it's not that many, we can probably take them."

Elin: "Around 20... I think. There are probably more."

Ethan took a deep breath.

Ethan: "I beg your finest, fucking pardon. WHAT?!"

Elin recalled back.

Ethan: "It's ok. Maybe we can try to lure the goblins out, and beat them one by one."

Ethan slowly turned towards Elin, with a menacing expression. It looked like he was ready to commit war crimes.

Ethan: "Right?!"

Elin's body stiffened. She gulped.

Elin: (If I tell him he will die, and if I don't he will die and kill me. I am dead either way so I better tell him.)

Elin: "The problem with that is—"

Ethan: "OH, COME ON!"

He violently kicked the chair over and flipped over the table.

Elin stepped back suprised, and a little scared.

Dylan casually sipped tea like it was a regular Tuesday.

Dylan: (The tea is really good today.)

Ethan dropped down on the bed.

Ethan: "Sorry.. Thought I saw a mosquito."

Elin: (Like hell you did.)

Elin: "In the middle there was a, monster."

Ethan: "And?"

Elin: "It looks similar to the other goblins but slightly smaller and It has tattoos all over its body. Even if that thing was not there. The shear amount of goblins makes it nearly impossible to get out from there."

Ethan: "So, what you are saying is... Whether we like it or not, we are stuck here."

Elin hesitated.

Elin: "Ya...."

Ethan leaned back and stared at the ceiling. A quite chuckle escaped him.

Ethan: "Ha, Haha. Hahahaha."
