(18 minutes later)
The bridge loomed just ahead.
Broken scraps of cars and bullet shells littered the roads. The road resembled a battlefield.
Elin, slammed on the brakes.
Alex: "Why'd you stop?"
With a hint of confusion on her face.
Elin: "There's something on the bridge."
Alex: "Is it a monster?"
Elin: "..I think? Yumi, can I use your binoculars?"
Yumi: "Wait a sec."
She rummaged through her bag. After a second, she pulled them out and handed them over.
Yumi: "Here."
She raised the binoculars, peaking through its lens.
In the center of the bridge, between the many destroyed vehicles.. Sat a monster.
It was massive, about twice the size of the others. It's body was thick with muscle, veins bulging beneath the green skin. In each hand, it held a giant battle axe, both blades chipped with foreign markings on them.
Alex: "What did you see?"
Elin: "It's definitely a monster... but it's different."
Alex: "In what way?"
Elin: "Well... It's definitely bigger and way more muscular than the other monsters. It's also holding two giant battle axes."
Alex stepped out of the car.
Alex: "Give me that thing."
She snatched the binoculars and looked through them.
Her jaw tightened and her face showed frustration.
Alex: "Tch."
Yuki stepped out too.
Yuki: "Let me have a look."
Yuki grabs the binoculars and looks through them.
Yuki: "No matter how you look at it, that definitely is a boss. Maybe that guy is the king of the monsters, or an elite monster. The axes look really cool, especially the markings."
Elin: "So... Should we try to cross the bridge?"
Alex: "It's not like we don't have much of a choice to begin with. Retreat is not an option, since the other monsters are about to wake up soon."
Yuki: "Plus. Even if we successfully retreat, we will still have to deal with this guy in order to leave."
Yuki tossed the binoculars in her bag.
Elin: "Are you sure?"
A hint of worry crept on to her face.
Yuki: "Relaaxxx, it's not like we are trying to fight that thing."
Alex: "I don't like to admit it, but Yuki is right. There is no way that monster is fast enough to keep up with a car."
Elin takes a deep breath and slams down on the accelerator making the engine roar. The car bursts forward.
The monster slowly opens its eyelids and stands up.
Elin locked in. She weaved through the wreckage, avoiding all the busted vehicle parts.
Then... Something moved above them.
Elin: (A bird? A plane?)
As soon as she looked up, her eyes widened. A car.
Elin: "–!"
She jerked the wheel, bairly avoiding it.
A car slammed onto the road beside them, exploding into debris.
As she tries to readjust when—
*Clank*
The windshield shatters. Something massive had pierced through.
The force causing the car to drift out of control, spinning in circles.
Elin stepped off the accelerator and jerked the wheel, quickly getting the car under control.
She turned back, her face filled with dread. A giant axe embedded inside Yuki's body as blood slowly seeps out.
Yuki, vision blurred, turned towards Alex. Her lips trembled
Yuki: "I.. shouldn't have.. jinxed it.."
Her voice getting weaker by the second.
Tears stream down Elin's face as she tries to reach back to her.
Alex: "Elin, WATCH OUT!"
Elin's mind snaps into place—nearly avoiding a wreckage.
She wiped her tears, and sped past the monster.
Alex grits her teeth and tightly held Yuki's hand.
Alex: "Yuki, hang in there we are almost through."
They could see the end of the bridge. Only a few metres left.
The monster calmly looked at their vehicle. Sorrow filled it's eyes.
It raised his hand.
???: "Kaltac."
The axe embedded in Yuki's body started to move, she could feel it.
The markings on it pulsed bright blue.
Yuki turns towards Alex.
Yuki: "Despite.. everything, this.. was the best—."
The axe goes through her, spliting the torso in half. Her eyes went blank, her torso falls down.
Blood flooded the car.
Alex frozen. Her mind went blank. She still held onto Yuki's hand, tightly. Like rejecting reality.
Their car began, slowing down.
Elin: (Just a little more.)
Elin: "Alex! The car's not moving."
It was quite obvious, the axe was dragging back their car.
Alex: (.....)
Elin: "Alex! What do we do now?"
The noises around in Alex started to zone out. Her breathing became sharp, fast. Her heart rate increasing by the second. Her grip tightened. A sharp ringing noise echoed inside ear.
Elin is desperately trying everything.
The monster does not wait for them to recover and launched another axe with incredibly strength.
*Thud*
A direct hit to the rear. The impact jolted them forward.
Elin: "Ugh."
Alex: "Ugh."
The sudden impact snaps Alex back to reality.
Without another word she opens the door and leped out.
Alex: "Elin! Get out!"
Elin: "Huh?"
Alex opened the door and yanked Elin out of her seat. The moment her foot left thea ccelerator— The car was violently launched back.
The monster suprised, raised his arm in front of it's face. Taking the impact straight on.
Elin waches horrified, catching her breath.
Elin: "WHERE'S YUKI?!"
Alex: "...."
Alex averted her gaze, unable to look Elin in the eye.
The guilt on her face told everything. Yuki was dead.
Elin: "I... see."
Upon hitting that reliasation, she dropped to her knees. Her chest tightened. Tears poured uncontrollably.
Alex grabbed her arm.
Alex: "We need to go!"
Elin shook her off.
Alex: "What are you doing?!"
Elin: "What's the point?"
Alex: "What?"
Elin: "We can't get away from that thing."
The monster shrugs off the car like nothing. No damage, not even a scratch.
It pulls out one of its's axe and charges straight towards them, each step cracked the ground.
Alex eyes widened. Without another word—She lifts up Elin, running towards the edge of the bridge.
Elin: "Why are you—?"
Alex: "Weather you like it or not, You are going to live."
The monster, in what seemed like an instant had almost caught up with them.
It stoped and hurled it's axe, right towards them.
Alex, only a second away from the edge, fell. Her legs cleanly severed off. Her body hits the ground with a sickening thud. Her blood painting the concrete.
Elin, weakly reached out towards her.
???: "Kaltac."
Alex: "NO DON'T!"
Elin hisitated. The axe flew back,— just inched from her hand.
She recoiled instantly. Her hand trembling uncontrollably.
Alex: "JUMP! NOW!"
Elin turned.
The monster is ready to throw it's axe again.
Closing her eyes Elin jumps off the bridge.
The axe launches, destroyimg the railings.
Elin curls up, as her body hits the water.
The monster turns it's attention to Alex, recalling his axe. It slowly walks over to her.
Alex looks over, knowing what's going to happen closes her eyes and braces for impact.
*Splat*
Without hesitation the monster swings down it's axe crushing her head in an instant, the ground cracking from the impact.
