SEASON 3, EPISODE 4: "The Living Gate"
COLD OPEN
[INT. MONASTERY – DAWN]
Rain hisses on the broken stone.
Kael stands alone in the ruins, eyes glazed. His hands tremble as he stares at them—black veins pulsing faintly beneath his skin.
The whisper in his head is no longer subtle.
VEX (V.O.)
"You're changing, Kael. The Gate touched you. Soon, you'll see it—the truth beneath your skin."
Suddenly, Kael screams and punches the stone wall. Blood. Cracks. But it's not from the impact.
His reflection in a puddle… blinks. But he didn't.
ACT ONE – THE GATE STIRS
[EXT. THE GATE BEYOND – MORNING]
The group reaches the Living Gate—an enormous arch carved from bone and vine, embedded into a black mountain.
It's no longer dormant.
It moves.
The surface pulses, like a heartbeat. Veins slither beneath the bark. The archway inhales, pulling wind inward.
MIRA touches it—and pulls away instantly.
MIRA (to Luma)
"It's not a machine. It's a mind. A memory. Alive."
LUMA, weak, sits against a boulder. Her pupils dilate as she touches the ground—and the earth responds. Her powers are mutating.
LUMA
"It sees us. All of us. And it's afraid."
ACT TWO – THE ARMY ARRIVES
[EXT. RIDGELINE NEAR THE GATE – SHORTLY AFTER]
VEX stands atop a ridge with his Evolved Army behind him:
• Wretches swarm like insects down the cliffside.• The Choir begins to hum—a low vibration shaking the rocks loose.
• Mawborn begin bending the sky around them—folding distance like cloth.• Beside Vex, a corrupted Mira flickers into reality.
A hallucination? A vision of what's to come?
VEX
"They still cling to the illusion of self. Let's show them what it means to be rewritten."
He raises his hand.
The attack begins.
ACT THREE – THE FIRST TRUE BATTLE
[EXT. THE GATE VALLEY – CONTINUOUS]
The team prepares—outnumbered, outmatched.
SERA vanishes into a blur, flanking through the trees. Corvin stands tall, armed with twin blades made of salvaged Maw steel.
MIRA activates old Dominion relics—pulse mines laced with tech she barely understands.
The battle is chaos:
• Wretches swarm. They scream through torn mouths. Mira cuts them down with electric traps.• Choir units descend, mouths opening. One scream sends Corvin to his knees, bleeding from the eyes.• Luma rises, glowing. Her body fractures momentarily as a second voice echoes through her mouth.
LUMA (dual voice)
"I am not only one. I am the Gate's echo."
She unleashes a pulse that levels trees.
ACT FOUR – THE SENTIENCE AWAKENS
As the battle rages, Kael approaches the Gate alone.
He hears everything.
Voices. His past. His mother. Vex. Himself.
The Gate opens its eye—not a door, but a biological iris, staring deep into Kael's memories.
INSIDE THE GATE (KAEL'S MIND)
He falls into darkness. Silence. Then, he's inside the core of the Living Gate.
Surrounded by twisting forms. They whisper:
THE GATE (many voices)
"We were the Architects. We built the walls. We severed the realms. But he… Vex… broke the seal."
Kael floats before a vision of the First Collapse—the old world being torn apart as sentient beings tried to ascend by fusing flesh and dimension.
It went wrong.
They created Vex.
Or worse—he created them.
THE GATE
"You are not like him. Not yet. But you are... key. To open. To end."
Kael falls again—
ACT FIVE – SACRIFICES AND STRATEGY
[EXT. THE GATE VALLEY – CONTINUOUS]
The group is losing. Mira's traps are depleted. Corvin barely holds the line. Luma's body begins to break apart mid-fight—splintering like glass, reforming with shadow.
SERA returns—dragging a Choir unit with her, its vocal cords sliced.
SERA (to Mira)
"I found their weak point. They're blind. They echolocate."
MIRA triggers a sonic feedback loop with salvaged Choir implants.
It explodes—blinding them all with light and silence.
Vex winces, but only smiles.
FINAL SCENE — THE MIND BREAKS
Kael wakes.
Standing at the center of the Gate. The eye has vanished. His nose bleeds. His eyes are now partly glowing blue.
Vex speaks in his head—again. But this time, so does someone else.
THE GATE (faintly)
"The fracture begins. You must choose—open, or be opened."
Kael collapses as the Gate shudders open fully—revealing not a new land…
…but a storm of forms.
Creatures not yet born.
Realities half-birthed.
And his own face, staring back from the void—smiling.
