"I've been out and about all day. Better finish this shower quickly and get to bed. Need plenty of rest — tomorrow night we'll probably be sleeping up in a big tree instead of a soft bed!" Hiroshi thought to himself while washing.
Just as he realised, tomorrow they would leave this village behind and travel through the forest. When night came, they would have to find a safe, hidden spot to rest — high up in the branches, where wild beasts couldn't easily reach them.
Time passed slowly. Meanwhile, Harumiko had already slipped under the covers. She had been exhausted after a whole day of running around with barely any rest, and now she could barely keep her eyes open.
"Finally done. Wow, I really took a long time in the shower today — definitely longer than usual. I've wasted enough resting time, better get out there and get some sleep myself,"
Hiroshi said as he dried himself off, put on a bathrobe, and stepped out of the bathroom. He saw right away that Harumiko was already tucked up in bed.
"She's already asleep, or nearly. She must have been really worn out today. Let her rest well — we set off tomorrow," he whispered softly with a smile.
"You're finally done! I was so tired I just had to get under the covers. Now I feel totally relaxed and ready to drop off. You should hurry up and sleep too — big day tomorrow, remember?" Harumiko said, looking at him with a sleepy smile.
Hiroshi nodded gently. "Alright, I'm coming to bed right now. That shower felt amazing — so refreshing."
Harumiko nodded, snuggled deeper under the blanket, closed her eyes, and smiled, feeling completely at ease.
Hiroshi walked slowly to the window and glanced outside. There were still plenty of people moving along the streets. He just shook his head, amused.
"It's nice to see the streets still lively, but I really need to sleep now. If I stay up any later, I'll never wake up tomorrow," he murmured, looking out one last time.
He walked over to the bed and slipped naturally under the covers. Over the past few nights, sharing this bed had become familiar, so tonight he didn't feel awkward or shy at all. He settled comfortably into position and closed his eyes.
"There really is nothing better than a shower before bed. My whole body feels loose and light — not a trace of tiredness left. If I sleep well now, I'll be in perfect shape tomorrow morning," he whispered happily, staring up at the ceiling.
"She really is exhausted — went to bed so early and she's already almost out. I'll let her sleep deeply. After all, tomorrow night we won't have a proper bed anymore; we'll have to find a comfortable spot up in a tree branch," he thought to himself, turning his head slightly to look at her.
Harumiko was already drifting off. She had been on her feet all day, stopping only for dinner, and after her shower, sleep had come instantly.
"Alright, time to sleep. Lights out now, let's get a good rest. We leave tomorrow afternoon. I'll go out early to buy supplies, so Harumiko can stay here and rest a bit longer," Hiroshi said softly as he turned off the light.
Once the room went dark, they both drifted quickly into dreams. It was a warm, peaceful moment. To be clean, comfortable, and safe together felt like pure happiness — truly the best moment of their lives right now.
They were far away from home, and having such a nice place to sleep was a real luxury. Of course, money made things easier wherever you went, but every coin they had was earned through hard work and effort.
Still, Hiroshi never hesitated to spend money on Harumiko. He believed that being stingy with the person you cared about — especially when she was a girl — was simply wrong.
In this world, earning money was straightforward enough: complete a mission, get paid. Just like in his old life — work a day, earn a day's wage.
But here, with his natural talent and growing strength, making money had become much easier and faster for him.
