Chapter 391 - Love Is Only Valued When It's Fleeing

Later, Liebe was at the hospital.

Isurugi said, "Sir, how are the preparations?"

Liebe said, "Good. But in the Abyssal Zone, I was under attack."

Isurugi said, "Sir, what happened?"

Liebe said, "Nothing much. It was alright. But I saw Fenrir."

Isurugi said, "The great black wolf—the god of us wolf demi-humans?"

Liebe said, "Yeah. We only have 14 days till the final round."

Isurugi said, "Yes, sir."

Liebe said, "I have some work left."

As he went to Horn's room:

Horn said, "That was foolish, Liebe."

Liebe said, "I know that attack."

Fate said, "You concern yourself far too highly with those you consider allies. Even without my leg, I'm still—"

Liebe said, "No need. You will have your leg back in 16 days."

Fate said, "You are concerning yourself too much with my well-being. You are forgetting our contract."

Liebe said, "I haven't forgotten."

Horn said, "Good."

Liebe said, "Now then, it's about time for me to start reading the novel to Alysa."

Horn said, "Keep your perverted thoughts to yourself, Faust. Those don't concern me."

As he left, he went to Mavia's room:

Liebe said, "How are the wounds?"

Mavia said, "Healing. I can start anytime."

Liebe said, "No. I still need you for later. This isn't the moment."

Mavia said, "Alright."

Liebe said, "How long does Alysa have?"

Mavia said, "The light shall be extinguished from Alysa Bouduin in 17 days. As the battle for the strongest begins, Aldina and Symphonics shall also rise as allies of Faust. The battle between a dark prince and a grieving hero shall turn all to ash."

Liebe said, "OK then. I can't waste time."

As he went to the chamber beneath the cathedral of the Faust Estate:

Loom said, "Faust, what is the meaning of this?"

Liebe said, "It's time to begin the fun."

As he drew the circle to summon the Time Devil, Supreme Devil of the 3rd Floor, Chronos. As connection was made to Chronos:

Chronos said, "Human, what do you want?"

Liebe said, "The Eyes of Sin and the Eyes of Purity."

Chronos said, "Are you aware of the price?"

Liebe said, "Yes."

Chronos said, "Then do it."

Liebe said, "Loom, watch."

As the 3rd sibling walked up, she said, "Sorry, brother, I have to go." As Loom's mouth was gagged, she said, "Brother, Faust promised me he will let all of you go if I do this." As she stepped onto the altar, she died a painful death as she was crushed to death.

Loom said, "Faust, what is this?"

As Liebe felt pain as his right eye began to change, Liebe said, "I have it now. The next one."

As the 4th sibling stepped onto the stage, Liebe said, "Loom, watch this." As he shot him in the head, killing him.

Chronos said, "Faust, now you possess the Eyes of Sin and Purity." As Liebe's eyes changed.

Liebe said, "Loom, let me tell you something. The Eyes of Purity allow you to see the future. But the thing is, it's impossible to synthesize for me as it requires a willing sacrifice. And I can't tell my team to die. Thanks for the gift. But for the Eyes of Sin, I don't need it to be willing. Murder is alright. So thank you."

Loom said, "Faust—"

Liebe said, "Shut up. You have 16 days to live. You five—take them wisely."

As he summoned the Supreme Devil of the 9th Floor, Archeos:

Archeos said, "Human, what do you want?"

Liebe said, "To regenerate someone's arm."

Archeos said, "It can be done."

Liebe said, "How many sacrifices do you need?"

Archeos said, "One will be more than enough."

Liebe said, "Good. Then here, I will bind a contract where you shall claim anyone of these sinners and cast the spell to heal her arm in 6 days."

Archeos said, "The contract is sealed."

As Liebe said, "Now I summon the worst of them all—the fallen angel Lucifer, the strongest being in the Underworld." As Lucifer's connection was made:

Liebe said, "Archdevil Lucifer, I want your power."

Lucifer said, "What are you offering, human?"

Liebe said, "The lives of every living being in Baledia."

Lucifer said, "What the hell is wrong with you? You little psycho! I wanted like 1 sacrifice to complete the spell and like 100 drums of wine. But what the hell is wrong with you? I'm in depression, but you—what the hell are—listen, I'm a fallen angel who did stuff, OK? But how come you are the darkest thing in the room? Listen, here is the info for my psychologist. OK? He is great at dealing with psychopaths like you."

Liebe said, "I mean, I'm offering sinners, so—"

Lucifer said, "Yeah, yeah, send me sinners, huh? The worst of your kind and take my power? What is wrong with you? So you get my power and I have to deal with the worst of your kind? As if I don't have anything better to do. Even drinking 145 hours a week is better than this. I was almost drunk again and going to sleep, and then a psychopath like you contacts me and gets me sober. What is wrong with you? You are literally the first human I'm talking to in 1000 years, and the first thing you offer me is a whole nation of dead people? Listen, listen. You see that asshole behind you?" As he pointed towards Loom, he said, "You want to sacrifice that? You look like even you don't want the bastard, and you are giving him to me? Thanks for throwing your trash at me. I really appreciate it."

Liebe said, "OK, OK."

Lucifer said, "Don't 'OK OK' me. Talk to someone—preferably my psychologist—then we talk about my power."

Liebe said, "Fine." As the connection was cut.

As he made the connection to Lucifer's psychologist, it was the Supreme Devil of the 14th Floor, Malvoth:

Malvoth said, "What do you want, human?"

Liebe said, "Alter the memories of everyone in the world regarding 3 issues."

Malvoth said, "Go on."

Liebe said, "I want to change the factors: Alysa Bouduin never came to Eldoria; Alysa Bouduin never fell in love with me; and finally, she never had Love Magic."

Malvoth said, "And the gaps?"

Liebe said, "Fill them with other fond memories."

Malvoth said, "It will require sacrifices."

Liebe said, "100 criminals."

Malvoth said, "It can be done. But remember, the more the sacrifices, the stronger the spell will be. And remember, the spell may be set in stone, but those who are at least 20X stronger than myself won't be affected by the spell, and they shall possess the power to break the spell."

Liebe said, "How many people is that?"

Malvoth said, "In the Underworld, human realm, and skies—that makes 89 individuals."

Liebe said, "Alright."

As all the devils were summoned at once:

Liebe said, "I want to make an ever-binding contract. On the night 16 days from now, I want to change reality. I want Archeos to heal Alysa Bouduin's arm. Lucifer, to grant her your magic attribute."

Lucifer said, "Not possible. My Hell Flame Magic isn't for humans. In fact, human bodies aren't capable of withstanding it. Even gods incarnated into human forms can't use it—it will cost their life span. I doubt there is a human out there who can withstand my flame magic for more than 10 years."

Liebe said, "Do you have a second attribute?"

Lucifer said, "Gravity Magic. Alright then. But remember, human, this attribute is far too deadly. If not used properly, it can wipe out nations."

Liebe said, "I accept. Now that this is a contract—Malvoth, use your magic to alter everyone's memories of Alysa and myself around the globe. Impose these three conditions: Alysa Bouduin never came to Eldoria; Alysa Bouduin never fell in love with Liebe Faust or was deflowered; and finally, she always had the Gravity Attribute, not Love Magic. Create a new reality."

Liebe said, "I want to form this contract with you three Supreme Devils. The contract shall be made now and it shall be put into effectiveness at midnight 16 days from now."

Lucifer said, "We can accept. But bear these terms in mind. Even if it's made now, since there are 6 days left, the magic can't be made effective at that point. If the catalyst—that is you—were to perish after this point, your life or death is of no consequence. And about the memory spell—not everyone will be affected. And even among those affected, those who shared long moments with her will feel her absence. It will appear as dreams, muscle memories, habits, and actions will feel as if something is missing. And not to mention, all physical records shall be kept. You need to alter those yourself."

Liebe said, "If the habits thing is true, then I'm imposing a new condition. Make a new reality full of fond memories—one where I'm not present, yet am replaced with countless happy thoughts. One where she doesn't have the time to consider such dreams or trivial feelings."

Lucifer said, "It shall be done."

Liebe said, "Let's complete the contract."

As Arteos screamed, "Everyone, don't form the contract!"

Lucifer said, "Arteos, what is this?"

Arteos said, "Everyone, this bastard is a Faust."

Lucifer said, "Great. Just great. Someone like you is a Faust?"

Arteos said, "Lucifer, don't listen to him. He is about to make the same mistake you did. Stop him."

Liebe said, "Huh? What? And shut up, you dumbass devil."

Lucifer said, "Faust, this contract can't be accepted at this instant. You shall have to wait 2 weeks—or 14 days. Think about your situation."

As from behind, Loom said, "Hey, take that, Faust! Even the devils don't want you!"

Liebe said, "So, Lucifer, you just said you don't want this bastard, right?"

Lucifer said, "Yeah." As he shot and ended Loom.

Malvoth said, "So you are a Faust."

Lucifer said, "You have to be kidding me. Arteos, this little psycho is a Faust?"

Arteos said, "Yeah."

Lucifer said, "You sure it's by blood and you know, not like adopted or something?"

Arteos said, "Sadly, yes. The Faust who birthed him—I remember the amount of curse words she used while birthing. I still remember that. I'm still traumatized."

Liebe said, "Disgusting."

Lucifer said, "Really? You are a Faust?"

Liebe said, "Yeah."

Lucifer said, "Can you like cut your finger a bit? I need to taste your blood to see if you really are a Faust."

As Liebe cut his finger, he bled a little.

Liebe said, "Well, drink it."

Lucifer said, "You dumbass Faust. You really are one. So dumb and naive. What if I said I want to get out of the Underworld just for a drink and then I will come back in? Will you let me out?"

Liebe said, "Umm, no. But does this mean you don't want to come out?"

Lucifer said, "Oh hell no. Why would I come out to see more psychos like you? To see how humanity went from bad to worse? No, thank you. I'm fine down here without you dumb things. And great, just great—God made a Faust like you: a psycho, naive, stupid Faust. And you are also decently strong for a human. The only thing missing is a tactician."

Arteos said, "He is that too."

Lucifer said, "Fuck. You have all the worst qualities at once. And they say God is great? Huh? What the fuck was He high on when making you?"

Liebe said, "Ask my mother."

Lucifer sighed and said, "Everyone, like, cut the connection. I need to have a word with Faust."

Malvoth said, "OK, sir."

Archeos said, "OK."

Arteos said, "OK."

Lucifer said, "OK, little Faust. Listen. Killing people does not solve stuff."

Arteos said, "Actually, this is the good, smart Faust. He just very, very recently lost it. And trust me, if you think this one is bad—trust me on this. And not to mention, I'm the one who molded this little dumbass into a hero. Lucifer, the other one is going to give you a heart attack."

Lucifer said, "You are still here?"

Arteos said, "Oh sorry, you were having a moment."

Lucifer sighed and said, "Let's talk, Faust."

Liebe said, "OK, sooo, umm—"

Lucifer said, "Let me start, I guess. Why are you doing this, Faust? And don't start some villain dialogue like 'you need my power to end the world' or some crap like that."

Liebe said, "No, that's not what—I just want to help someone I care about."

Lucifer said, "Is that so? I don't talk about it, but long ago, I had a family. Someone I loved. A messy daughter. I cared for. Infant devils are a lot."

Liebe said, "I know a bit about that."

Lucifer said, "How?"

Liebe said, "I have a female devil on my team, lol. She is a bit of a handful."

Lucifer said, "She? How fatherless must a devil—no, a female organism—be to join your team?"

Liebe said, "Wait, huh, what?" As he realized every female in his team is fatherless. Alysa's dad is in the Empire. Mavia killed her dad. Fate is a musician—lost all her memories before being a musician. And not to mention they basically know nothing about Gaia's family.

Liebe said, "Fuck. All the females in my team really are fatherless."

Lucifer said, "One guess and I'm already correct. Now listen, Faust. Why happened that you had to well, kick someone from your team that badly?"

Liebe said, "A lesson. A harsh lesson that hurts the worst of them all."

Lucifer said, "And what lesson is that?"

Liebe said, "Ports have seen more sincere kisses than any wedding hall. Hospital walls have witnessed harder prayers than any church in the world. Love is only valued when it's fleeing. I can see that now."

Lucifer said, "How did you learn that?"

Liebe said, "When I was with her, I was happy. I was the happiest man alive. But now seeing her like this in the hospital walls, all I want is to see her smile—no matter who I have to pray to. God or devil, if anyone is out there, please save her. That's my only prayer. She was everything. But now seeing her life on a clock of mere 17 days, I realize love can only be valued when it's fleeing. Seeing her go away from me—it hurts. But I can still smile through it because I know I can use your powers to save her. Even if it means she will live far away in a world where I don't exist. I can't sleep. The timer of 17 days keeps me awake. But if I use the spell now, my heart will shatter thinking I won't even be able to see her for these last few times."

Lucifer said, "Fleeing love is what hurts the most. Yet without it, you can never value it. But will you be able to live without her?"

Liebe said, "Yeah. Maybe I will cry, shatter myself, lose my heart. But eventually, I have to. I can't live with myself if she was hurt in the future. So I plan to take responsibility by watching over her new life. Even if it meant seeing the best parts of her without me in them. But that's my punishment. I will atone by making sure she lives the life she wanted."

Lucifer said, "So this girl is almost out of time. I realize something now, Faust. You may be a psycho and an idiot, but you aren't evil. I can't sense any good or evil from you. You are just hurt. A mere child. I will help you in your endeavors—if it means repaying my debt to Faust."
