Chapter 392 - Neither Good nor Evil

Liebe said, "Huh? Is that so?"

Lucifer said, "Faust, neither good nor bad suits you."

Liebe said, "Yeah, still not getting it."

Lucifer said, "It makes sense. But I wanted to ask—have you met Freyja yet?"

Liebe said, "Who is that again?"

Lucifer said, "Someone who was quite precious to me long ago. Almost as much as Hvíldarráð."

Liebe said, "Yeah, yeah, who are they again?"

Lucifer said, "Hvíldarráð is a man revered by both angels and devils alike. Someone who almost reached Faust."

Liebe said, "You are starting to lose me again."

Lucifer said, "It appears so. He was neither good nor evil, but he was revered by all for that. I miss them quite a bit."

Liebe said, "Oh, I understand. By the way, who is Freyja?"

Lucifer said, "Freyja, huh? I cared deeply about her, yet both times she left us first. But she was precious to us. What do you know about her?"

Liebe said, "Well, the legends call her the goddess of love or something something. But basically, it is said she would search for her Odr—her beloved one—with a translucent soul. And from that came the saying 'You are my Odr' or a woman calling someone their great love or something. Basically, it turned into when a woman calls someone their Odr, they are chosen as their champion, lover, protector, etc., etc. Something I failed."

Lucifer said, "From what I saw, she was always the embodiment of love itself. In every way, she was loving to all. She always belonged to Faust, yet loved us all as children. Devils are creations of Faust's love, yet we angels are stronger than devils because we angels are creations of Faust's strength. And that is the sad reality. That is why we angels were always fighting the devils—not because they were guilty, but because they were created from something we desperately wanted. Now that I'm also a fallen angel, I realize he truly was neither good nor bad but cared for us all. 5000 years ago, we were infants, and they suffered for us—devils and angels."

Liebe said, "Is that so?"

Lucifer said, "1000 years ago, we were both defeated. Neither angels nor devils were successful. Everyone has been effectively useless. And both sides—all our allies were beaten. Including angels, devils, demi-humans, elves, robots, and something else."

Liebe said, "Is that what happened 1000 years ago?"

Lucifer said, "Pretty much."

Liebe said, "All we know in history is that 1000 years ago, there was a great Abyssal Break and the monsters covered the world. Every continent, every nation was destroyed, and humanity had to start from scratch. As God sealed away the devils, and well, under God's wishes, leaders of 3 nations formed an alliance known as the Congress Treaty. Over time, every other nation also joined. And the three nations who formed the alliance merged into a single world superpower known as the Grand Empire. And the rulers and their descendants of those three nations became the global superpower who monitor global peace until the gates of the Netherworld break and Nerthalis occurs."

Lucifer said, "What's Nerthalis again?"

Liebe said, "You know, your typical devil break—the gate, they come out, kill people, etc., etc."

Lucifer said, "Seems boring."

Liebe said, "Hey, is it just you, Arteos, and the other guys, or is every devil this chill?"

Lucifer said, "Ohhh no, no. Like 1000 years ago, the Underworld was united. But like, you know, we were defeated and divided. Currently, like 2 of us are in the Faust faction, including every fallen angel."

Liebe said, "Wait, you aren't the only one?"

Lucifer said, "Oh hell no. There are like what, 5 of us down here? And trust me, some people really hate your kind down here. Satan, Aravon would be that."

Liebe said, "Huh? Why? What did I do to the poor guy?"

Lucifer said, "Don't know. But Aravon seems pretty mad. Apparently, some human stopped his plans of escaping the Underworld, and apparently the human looked like Hvíldarráð—the great god of darkness, black wings, horns, etc., etc. It was hilarious. Where do you think he found that? Only a Faust's power can resemble Hvíldarráð."

Liebe said, "The funny thing is, I was the one who cut his plans short."

Lucifer started to laugh and said, "Damn, you really are just like him. Also, pretty sure if Satan finds out, you will be dead meat."

Liebe said, "Why does he hate me so much?"

Lucifer said, "Honestly, he hates everyone. I try to be a good neighbour since we share the lowest floor. But since he is weaker than me and I'm drunk, depressed, and passed out for the most part, he really doesn't care until like I try to be friends. And I still don't get why we aren't friends. I help water his lawn by pissing in it. I gave him the bottles after I'm done drinking. I once tried to kiss him as bros to show my sign of friendship."

Liebe said, "OK, OK, so like first of all, stop the friends kissing and pissing part. And hey, Lucifer, I wanted to ask—when did you become a fallen angel?"

Lucifer said, "Oh me? 5000 years ago."

Liebe said, "You seem so chill. So why?"

Lucifer said, "Oh that? I was just a dumb 30-year-old infant. Without Faust and Freyja to guide me, I started asking the wrong questions. Like 'This isn't what they would do.' And I was punished. Honestly, I'm still proud of what I did. At least now I can face them in heaven."

Liebe said, "I see. What were they like? Tell me a story."

Lucifer said, "Faust and Freyja were full of kindness. Every moment was full of joy. They would always talk about how I would live for millennia, and they would always find a way to love me. They were the closest thing I had to parents. They were wonderful, honestly. I miss Freyja and Hestia. Hestia's kids sure were annoying."

Liebe said, "Wait, how isn't Hestia supposed to be the virgin goddess of the hearth?"

Lucifer said, "Well, yeah. We used to call her our little illuminating nun. She was annoying, but I loved beating up her kids. It was fun."

Liebe said, "How can she be a virgin and have kids?"

Lucifer said, "Oh that? They were all adopted."

Liebe said, "Ohhhhhhhhhh."

Lucifer said, "Freyja was kind. Never scolded us. Always put us above herself. We lived in a castle, but the rooms weren't large. We weren't royalty, yet it was home. Freyja's cooking, the warmth of home, the smile on everyone's faces—I can never forget that."
