Chapter 32: The Wolf at Her Door
Theme: Love returned, trust unsteady — and the echo of old promises in a world reborn.
The city still trembled from his arrival.
Vivi stood before him at the gates, crown dim beneath the moonlight, her breath sharp as frost. Around them, soldiers watched in silence — none dared speak. The world itself seemed to hold its breath.
Haken bowed his head, not as a knight to his queen… but as a man to his truth.
"I came because the fire called me."
Vivi's voice was quiet, but every word burned.
"Then you should have run."
He met her eyes — the blue that once meant safety, now ringed in faint gold.
"Run from you?" he said. "I tried that once."
The silence cracked.
The Queen appeared on the balcony above, her veil like shadow against the stars. "Bring him inside," she commanded. "The council will decide what to do with the beast."
Haken didn't move. His gaze stayed fixed on Vivi.
"I didn't come to bow to councils," he said. "I came to warn you."
"Of what?" Vivi asked.
"The woods are changing. The old gods are waking. And something in them knows your name."
A flicker crossed her expression — a mix of fear and defiance.
"The gods had their chance," she said. "Now they'll answer to me."
The wolves behind him shifted, uneasy. Even the moon seemed dimmer for a heartbeat.
Then, quietly, Haken spoke again.
"You sound like him."
The air froze.
"Who?"
"Viper."
The name cut through the courtyard like a blade.
Vivi stepped closer, her fire flickering — not angry, but trembling.
"Don't ever compare me to him."
"I'm not," Haken said. "But the crown is."
And for the first time since she wore it, Vivi felt its weight press down — not power, but pull.

That night, storms gathered over the capital.
Thunder whispered the name of the one who would break the world.
Whether it meant Viper… or Vivi, none could tell.
